jslamerman Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I have my axles out of the vehicle, and I'm wondering how much you guys rotated your perches for a SOA conversion in the rear (short bed, 5spd, stock slip yolk tcase), roughly???? I do have an add a leaf, but I think it is only adding 1-2 inches. Any rough help would be appreciated, as Id hate to get it back from regearing and have to install it, just to remove it to drive another 2 hours back to get perches rewelded on. I can make basic adjusments with a shim
DirtyComanche Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Mine are at 6* and I have maybe 7-8" of lift, not really sure. Pinion's a tad steep in reality. That's with a short bed.

DirtyComanche Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 Stock is 0* - I think. It's 6* over nothing. I swapped in a ford 8.8 when I went SOA so I don't have a baseline.
Pete M Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 I know the experts say that matching the angles is needed, but I swapped in a Bronco axle and sorta used the Ford pads which point the pinion up at the t-case (the Bronco had a double cardon shaft). I swapped in new joints and haven't had any problems with vibration. My personal feeling is that using new joints is more important. Old joints do not like changes in operating angle. Jeep on! --Pete
pingpong Posted January 25, 2006 Posted January 25, 2006 This is one of those jobs where the vehicle has to be sitting at ride height, with weight on the springs to set the pinion angle properly. If the axle is stiing on jack stands, or the leafs are un loaded, when you add the weight, it will change. On my 2 rigs my settings are both different. Patrick
carnuck Posted February 1, 2006 Posted February 1, 2006 I welded new pads on my axle exactly 180 degrees from the OEM. If you go to tilt it at the trans, vibration will get higher as the angle increases (this is with it running) Using a double cardan rear shaft (with a SYE and 2 piece shaft or specially done 1 piece shaft) will curb the vibes and you can point the axle directly at the trans.
