bradseals Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I'm looking to buy a valve cover for my 1991 jeep Comanche and I'm finding loads of them that say they'll fit on a 1993 4.0 . . I want to know if these will also fit the 1991, and if not, what is the difference? I'm in the middle of a restoration and buying everything new never used so in the event that the 93' cover won't fit where can I find a nice (metal) cover for a decent price?
87manche1 Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 91 is the same as 93. These covers go from 91-96 get a felpro rubber gasket not the cork way easier to use. Just installed one last night.
AeroNautical Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 $30 over $5, but well worth it. I've got a valve cover from a 99 Grand Cherokee on my 88, fits perfectly. Pretty sure all 4.0 covers are universal, not sure about 2.5 though.
HOrnbrod Posted November 11, 2013 Posted November 11, 2013 The 4.0 covers, be they stamped steel or cast aluminum, will interchange providing you use the correct FelPro gasket for the cover. One has spacers for the bolts (steel); the other does not (alloy). Also the CCV grommets, elbow fittings and tubes were different starting in 95-96 -ish (1/4 turn lock vs. press in). The CCV vent tubes were increased in size for better crankcase ventilation to better prevent blowby.
