Mj/xj With Tj-Flares????

Recommended Posts

Here's my XJ w/TJ flares.  Just a word of warning.  Once done, you can never go back  to stock... or even Bushwackers since fitting the TJ flares requires some serious cutting of the fenders, including cutting the pinch seam in the rear.  After doing it, I had to rebuild the seam with some extra steel & a good biy of welding.

If I had it to do again...I wouldn't.  They look fine, but I'd drop the money on some Bushwackers or remove the flares altogether

The flairs seems to fit Not very well, Right?

They are to Short I think!!

But I Need to fix other flares to Drive bigger tires and rims with more Offset!!!!

So there must come another Solution!!

In germany bushwackers will be to expensive, about 600$ a Set!!!

Could look at JK flares? Some of the FSJ guys have used them on their rigs (using only rear flares at all four corners IIRC). Once again though I don't think they would fit very well and are going to require a lot of trimming.

Wrangler flares really only look good on other rigs if the body is already trimmed IMO (the red XJ as an example doesn't look too bad because of excessive trimming). The red one also looks like it might have used a total of 6 rear flares and no fronts to get the overall look to be closer to fitting the XJ shape. I would think if you were willing to get fancy with them, taking 8 rear flares would look decent if you only used the end that hung down longer and molded them together where you made the cuts line up flush.

That Sounds good, but so I will get The Same Problem:

It's to expensive, one complete (used) Set will be 120-150$, so Four Sets Would be 480-600$, nearly like bushwackers!!!

:(

You can't nab some from scrap yards?

What do you all think about this:

Won't work. Those are for 4dr XJ's. You would need some for a 2dr and even then they may not work if they bolt up like stock flares. The 2dr Bushwacker Cutout flares work on the 2dr XJ and MJ's because you cut the body on both vehicles to fit the new flare, so in the end the wheel well opening is the same shape and size. Stock, they are very different.

Ya, I just thought about some universal extensions!!!

Seems that Would be MY solution!!!!

I can't find it on-line, but in their printed catalogs JC Whiney used to offer two versions of those. One was for cars, and extended (I think) 2-1/2 inches (about 60mm). The other was for trucks and buses and extended (again, if I remember correctly) 3-1/2 or 4 inches (around 80 to 90mm). It was available either as pre-cut lengths, or in a roll. If you can't find it, let me know. I may have a virgin roll of it tucked away in the basement.

Anyone considering this:  consider using 4 REAR TJ flares as the front TJ flares add another marker light ( or a hole where a marker light should be.Pics of this conversion often do not show the extra marker lights for some reason.) The rear flare fits the contours of the front wheel well better anyway.

I trimmed all four wheel wells and flares and slapped them on in about thirty minutes. Someone taking their time could do a much better job.
