88whitemanche
What's up guys So I've been converting my interior black and also changed over to bucket seats but want the long center console like the Cherokees....I've been to junkyards home stop and only seen automatics... .but my question is will the automatic one got for a 5speed? Like does the square plastic that the rubber boot sits on can that be used to be adapted to the automatic one?
jeepsouth
Just put one in my truck ,and it was from an automatic. The shifter boot will fit in place of the automatic bezel.

NHMJXJ
This is edited text ... You notched the front of the console to accommodate the floor vents? Can't tell for sure. My truck is an auto on the column. Anyone got a creative resolution to clean up the opening for the floor shifter? ~Tim
87sparTruck
Put in a metal plate with a jeeo or amc logo. Or make another compartment out of fiberglass.
dave92cherokee
You could always create a filler piece and make a cup holder there.

1987Comanche
The under dash floor vent on the bottom of the airbox is held on with 2 or 3 Phillips head screws. If you pull it from a full console XJ/MJ it's a direct replacement for the floor vent that came with the mini console truck.

I didn't know that at the time of install though.

NHMJXJ
Yes notched the very front to fit. If you are not looking close at it you would never know. You do some quality work. The console looks perfect. In fact, the whole interior looks really smart. Well done.

92tanMJ
I don't think the OP would care much if you guys did hyjack it. He hasnt posted back in a while..lol I would do this in a heart beat IF my MJ had a backseat... I cannot bring myself to get rid of the bench seat becasue I loose that extra room for a person/(dog). I don't like putting my dog in the bed, its not like he would jump out or something, it the fact that $#!& happens and I just don't want him back there if I get into an accident or what have you. Well time to go day dream about a 4 door manche swap.. Edit: I can't say sh-at? (not $#!&)
NHMJXJ
I've been stockpiling stuff for the interior for a year. Hope to get much of it done this week as I'm on a long awaited vacation. I have no garage, so I'm literally a back yard (ahem ... I use the term loosely) mechanic. Got to working on the console yesterday afternoon. With printed picture of Jeepsouth's success in hand I commenced cutting ... here are the results. The new carpet should arrive today. The console is resting in place. NHMJXJ
Thank you! I'm diggin' the psuedo Eliminator set-up. Had inspiration from Hornbrod on how to resolve the space where the floor shifter plate goes. More pics to come!
NHMJXJ
Nice discovery this afternoon ... I have much of the interior out to clean up the floors. While things are setting up, I decided to install the mounting hardware for the console and discovered there are already punch marks in the tunnel for the holes that need be drilled. Love it!
