Biotex
With the addition of the 8.8 axle, my rear drive shaft will be 1" too long. What do you think of if I just remove 1" off the end of the slip yoke? Seems like it would work out ok, but thought i'd ask...
Pete M
contact from bottoming out doesn't just happen on the outside where you can see it. It also happens on the inside. I don't know if there's enough room inside to do what you are looking to accomplish a rear driveshaft out of a shortbed/4.0/automatic is 1 inch shorter.
skidoo_j
As much Slip that's there on the shaft I Doubt you'd need to trim it esp if you're adding any sort of lift. I saw you're staying SUA, but didn't see if you were changing springs or not. On another note post some pictures of your rig with the fender flares on. Now that I have crawled under and looked, cutting the yoke down won't accomplish a thing since it isn't bottoming inside the tail shaft, but at the yoke where the u-joint starts. Post 102 and 107 has the pictures. http://comancheclub.com/topic/37070-maura-gets-a-facelift-1990-4x4/page-
Pete M
I bet there's a Comanche owner near you that is looking for a driveshaft 1" longer to accommodate his lift. :D
ParadiseMJ
I had the local drive line shop cut original down 1" and put a new rear yoke on it, balanced and even painted, $40.
Biotex
It would cost me $100 in fuel just to drive to the nearest drive line shop. I'm probably going with a Tatton's shaft for $150.

HOrnbrod
To answer the thread, it's not a bad idea to cut down a slip yoke as long as it's internally fully splined. Some of them are not. I trimmed a long 27-spline GM yoke down after I did the original lift and ran it a few years until I was finished playing with the lift. Worked fine.
