What Is The Quickest You've Sold A Vehicle?

I listed my '97 TJ for sale on Craiglist late Saturday afternoon and I got a text while in church yesterday morning.  By 2:30, I had sold the vehicle.  I've heard of people selling things on Craigslist pretty quickly, but I've never been able to sell a vehicle that quickly.

about 6 yrs or so ago I posted an 88 GMC half ton 4x4 on craigslist and two hrs later it was sold. Was a pretty good deal too seeing as how I bought it off of craigslist. it was listed for $800, I talked him down to $600, drove it around for 4 years and then sold it for $1200

My all time record was listing my son Nathan's 1990 fox body convertable mustang  (riddled with hail damage) The top was black duct tape covering up holes big enough to stick your head through.

I listed it on a Monday morning at about 5:00 AM... took the photos the night before.

Had 3 offers on it by the time I arrved at the office the same morning at 7:00 AM. One guy wanted to drive over to the office at lunch and hand me cash for the car sight unseen.

I met with one of the guys at 3:00 PM (left early for the day) Had the $ 2000.00 in hand by 3:30 did not even try to talk me down......

Wished I had asked $3000.00 in the ad......................

I had a Honda Vtec engine with 70,000 miles on it out of a 1997 Civic. Posted it on Craigslist for 300 bucks and and within minutes a guy called me and met me as soon as I was off work with the dough in hand. He didnt try to beat me down either. I was a happy camper.

Kinda off/on topic but, what is the proper edicate when dealing with mulitply offers from craigslist callers? I ran into this a few weeks ago when selling one of my vehicles, it worked out in the end, but i feel as though i definately could have handled it better.

Multiple offers? First come first serve. Talk to the person who contacted you first, and if it sells, contact the other people saying you appreciate their interest but it has been sold. That's what I do. Also have a 97 Jeep wrangler on craigslist... it's been over 6 months and no credible offers, haha. I mean, I know wranglers don't compare to comanches, but cmon!

The proper ettiquette as far as craiglist goes is indeed first person with money that WANTS your merchandise and gives you the best offer is the winner.  If you're holding out for more money it's perfectly OK to say so.  If someone calls you and offers you a price AND you accept it then they are supposed to come get it and pay you and you should honor that.  If someone else calls you and asks you to hold it until they get there without an offer or without cash they are out of luck.  I'll hold a piece of merchandise...but only for full price and only for a very short time.

It's OK to hold it until all the offers are in, but I'm going to sell it to the first guy that meets my price and has the cash.  It's all about what you agree to on the phone.

My very first transactions on craigslist were when I listed my wife's minivan and my mom's Volvo on the same day and SOLD them the next day...and BOUGHT my son's Jeep 2 hours later.

Last week I listed my 2 canoes and the trailer for them as a package deal and sold it all the next day for full asking price (the guy didn't haggle at all).  Crazy!!

I love craiglist but my wife thinks it dangerous to have strangers come to the house...yet we have a yard sale at least once a year.

Did you post it with pictures, full description?  Priced too high?  Try editing your post.

People browsing craiglist are usually looking for bargains.

Pictures, description detailing everything that's been done to it, $4700 negotiable. Browsing anywhere, it's well within that price range. There is also a for sale sign on the vehicle itself. Drive it to wendys or work and people call all the time, but almost ALWAYS want to trade. If not trade, then low ball at 2 grand. I just thought it was funny because wranglers usually sell pretty quickly.

I sold my '74 J10 in a day. Would have been less if IFSJA didn't go down while the guy that wanted to buy it was trying to contact me. He ended up finding my duplicate f/s post on FSJN though and got me there. He basically said "I'm coming to get the truck with asking price cash in hand". Came all the way from Buffalo, NY to central OH on new years day to collect the truck and then turned right back around.

I was shocked how fast it sold, and the distance the buyer was. Should have kept it, but I'm glad it went to a good home and I'll find another someday when I have a place of my own with spare room for toys. My goal is to have both MJ and Gladiator, the two best trucks money can buy if ya ask me.  . :MJ 1: .

I had one inquiry on my MJ the first time I tried to sell it last time, about 2 months ago. The second time (about 2 weeks ago) I had about 5 inquiries and got a good trade on my KJ. It doesn't have half the cajones the MJ had or the bed but it's a solid little Jeep. I plan on owning at least one Jeep at all times the rest of my life.

I know of a guy that put up a TJ he had, jumped in the shower and had an email by time he got out saying they have cash in hand and will pick it up now.  Had the Jeep sold within an hour.  He bought it for $2k and sold it for $5500.

Easy now, there actually are some credible people on craigslist, as rare as it may seem. I got my MJ off of craigslist, the guy was quick to respond, answered all of my questions and was the biggest pro american, stereotypical red neck I've ever met. He was awesome. My sister also got her wrangler off of craigslist (what a mistake that was, pos 2.5L blew on her) and my brother got his XJ from a pastor on craigslist. It's usually easy to weed out the undesirables on CL by looking at how they word their adds, spelling, quality of pictures (if any, that is), and really just how much they care about selling it.

Got my MJ off CL too.

Bought it for $400 from the son of an old farmer who had died.  Sold it for $400 and delivered it 90 miles on a flatbed to my front door.

He was not a low life...neither am I.

Etiquette on Craigslst?  LOL!  That place has no etiquette.  It's a cesspool of lowlifes, lowballers, no-shows and tire kickers.  Only thing is has going for it is that it's free.

Whoa, slow down there haus,  . don't throw out the whole bushel beacuse of one bad apple. Craigslist maybe a little sketchy at times, but it has some real worth.

I parked my old CJ-7 at the end of the driveway. I was half way back to the house when someone pulled in. He handed me cash and picked it up later that afternoon. So with the time spent watching him kick the tires, six minutes.

Haven't thrown the site out - I use it almost every day to search for items.  I have a program running on my server that picks out keywords I specify and then e-mails me notifications when new ads pop up with said keywords.  Most of the used crap I buy is from CL, but the overwhelming majority of sellers on the site are completely unmotivated and don't have much desire to move product.  One of the reasons I like ebay is that when someone has to take the time, effort, and financial expense to list an item, they almost always follow through with the sale.  CL being free is a double-edged sword - you get a lot of variety and people coming out of the woodwork to sell items, but also get a lot of folks who really aren't interested in selling, they just want to see what they can get.
