robbie95
Hey guys, when I bought the comanche I knew about the parking brake not working but I didn't think it was that big of an issue.. When pressing down on the parking brake the equalizer doesn't move, not sure if its supposed to or not, but just thought I'd throw that in there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NA8Oj7xnotw
Blue88Comanche
it the equilizer under the truck does not move then the cable may have broken and requires a replacement, can you tell if maybe the cable came un hooked from the foot lever?

I just looked, it seems to be connected, but it seems relatively loose. Not sure if just tightening would help or not, could it just need tightening? Blue88Comanche
So should I first try to tighten the equalizer locknut? I would give it a shot, there should be mine had 2 13mm nuts on the adjuster
Eagle
It could also be that the cable between the foot peddle and the equalizer is corroded and frozen. There is no point in trying to adjust the equalizer nut unless you know the cable is moving freely.

87MJTIM
Was the parking brake pushed on or was it released? While you are down looking at the cables, have someone pushing the pedal in and release it several time. Examine how the cables move. That will help identify where to start your search. robbie95
did that yesterday, nothing moves when you hit the pedal
87MJTIM
Then you should start in the cab. Remove the driver's seat and pull up the carpet. Inspect the cable for crimps or breaks. I replace my main cable last year. Got it NAPA. It was in stock in the store!

I agree 100%, not only will pulling the seat let you get at your E brake cable, which has probably rusted in half, but you will also be able to check for dreaded floor board rust. :ack:

87MJTIM
Here's what mine looked like. The cable runs on the left side of the picture - top to bottom - through the floor reinforcement. The truck is at a body shop to fix the floor and a paint job.
robbie95
Alright, so update.. Was going to pull the seats out last saturday with a buddy of mine, he was bored so I was like I'm trying to figure out why my e-brake isnt working.. so he came over lol. Long story short, got to the 3rd bolt and it was rusted SOLID, so talked to a guy on here and he recommended PB Blaster, grabbed a can of it at autozone and went to town yesterday, seems to be working, so i'll probably pull the seat out this weekend. Since I couldn't get the seat out that day,(Me being the stubborn person I am) decided I'd try to tighten the equalizer nut, I tightened it up pretty good, didn't get a response... So I didn't give up, got under there again and pulled it off and got all the rust off I could, tried tightening it again and what do you know, it moved! I was excited at first, but the brake still doesn't work.. and after a while it just stopped moving again, so I don't know if it's loosening itself or what. Could someone be kind enough to take a picture of theirs so I could have something to go off of?
