86FUBAR
So I'm looking at getting a 1991 jeep Cherokee limited 4x4 auto with 191000 and after looking it over a bit today and a test drive I offered the guy 1900 if it passed smog ,he is getting it smogged on Thursday and hopefully it is all a go and I can mess with it this weekend . I know it needs a tune up and a good steam cleaning under the hood and probably some other fluids changed . It is totally un molested and most everything works as it should and the interior is in really good shape minus the headliner, drivers front seat and the over head digital display dosnt work , anybody have any info on the overhead ? anyhow I'm excited as I have never owned let alone driven an xj and the 4.0 is also new to me so this is going to be a learning experience but I think it is decent deal so....ya hopefully I will have pics to come soon. o and the manch isn't going anywhere so don't worry . GirsMJ86
I had an XJ overhead console that I was putting in my '91 Eliminator back when I had it. Not much to it honestly. More than likely it is just a fuse/ground problem. Worst case senario is that the screen is shot. If that is the case the console should just be held up by a screw or two and it slides back and off the brackets. Then just unplug it and reinstall one from a JY. vaquaro
The "Gold " trim thing done to the max , but that's easy to change . I had a '89 white/w gold , sure enjoyed the full time AWD . Just think of it as a MJ with a permanant canopy

86FUBAR
Well it looks like i was victim of a craigslist flake ! i called on thursday morning like we had talked about and shook on and i got no answer , left a couple messages and got nothing he seemed like a nice kid (25 years old) but i guess a hand shake dosnt mean much to some people anymore . Now I'm only 30 but i was raised up with the idea that a hand shake or your word was as good as cash money in the bank because IMO it is a direct reflection or your character but i guess that train of thought is lost on many. I can only assume that he found some one else that was willing to pay more or paid cash on the spot but I just would have liked a call or something . Well whatever ill keep looking . ok enuf ranting
GirsMJ86
That sucks to hear. Formalities like that seem to be found less and less anymore. I'm only 26 but I agree that a handshake is basically sealing the deal. I also try to be completely honest when selling a vehicle, which may just bite me in the rear more times than not I'm sure since I'm listing things that scare off people. But I'd rather feel good about telling all I know about my vehicle rather than trying to slide something by someone. The PO managed to slide by me that the rear axle was completely toast in this Vic, which explains why he was asking so little. That's fine, I fixed it and now can ask a normal range asking price. If I were to discuss a deal with someone and shake on it, then someone else comes along offering more with cash in hand, I'd be calling the first person before selling it out from under them. What I really love though are the ones who pull stuff like selling the wheels that are on the vehicle and putting old crappy ones on after a deal has been made on the vehicle with the better ones. 86FUBAR
Well I'm moving on and in doing so I came across a 1998 Cherokee loaded and my wife pointed out that the dash was a different color and since I don't know I figured I'd ask if this was factory or not Anybody shear some light on this ? HOrnbrod
I've never seen anything like that in a factory XJ, and had quite a few. But haven't seen them all of course. Seeing mismatched interior colors like than is an alarm for me to run the VIN.
Automan2164
That's original... The dash was always agate, and then the rest was the desired color. Here is my 'mist grey' interior, with agate dash. I have some other '97 sales brochures that show the tan interior that you posted with the same thing going on in your pic. Rob

92tanMJ
Yeah that original, one of my buddies back home has that same interior.
86FUBAR
Well that's good to know , ya I didn't even notice it as I was to busy thinking how nice it would be to drive it every day and my wife said it looks like the dash was replaced or something . terrawombat
In 1999 Jeep went with a single color interior on the dash, which was the smartest thing they could have done since that agate/grey mist combo was horrendous.
86FUBAR
Well that jeep is gone ! Man you got to be quick around these parts on these jeeps , I'm seeing tons of grand Cherokees but i really don't want want one of them as the wife had a 94 v8 about 7 years ago and it was quite problematic though it may have just been a fluke . Anyhow I still got time till I "need" new wheels so ill keep hunting till I find what something.

Rob Well, now that I've seen that pic, that's the same as we had on both the 98 and 01. Both were overseas vehicles from AAFES (in Korea and Guam), and were mostly driven by the wife since I was mostly gone traveling. Thanks for ringing my bell Rob. Guess I never paid much attention to it.
