Dash Vin Help

I Looked up on the site and couldnt find anything. I'm swapping the blue interior out of my 87 pioneer with gray interior out of a 88 pioneer. Is there a way i can put my VIN plate on the gray dash i wanna put in my truck?

Not legally. Best way is to remove the dash pad from the metal part of the dash, that has the VIN tag, and swap it. That's legal.

The VIN is riveted to a plastic part of the dash structure. A heat gun and screwdriver can be used to pop everything out as one piece (very carefully). Reverse the process to (re)install it on your dash ;)

thanks for the help guys, I'm gonna give it a try i didnt know it was all this work lol makes me wish my blue dash wasnt destroyed lol

Lets be realistic here. If you are swapping the VIN plate to keep it matching the vehicle and being honest about it without the intent to deceive then there is really nothing wrong with it. Legally the law says ANY tampering would be illegal. That is unrealistically restrictive to people trying to repair their vehicles.

You want to reuse the rivets. I heated the rivets with a pen torch from underneath and gently popped them out of the dash with a small screwdriver. Then push them back in the new dash and put some epoxy on the bottom to hold the rivets in. It is pretty easy really.

To get the old one off of the bad dash, I take a phillips, smack it through the plastic on both sides of the good vin, vin comes right off.

Drilled the rivets on the bad vin, pulled that off.

Put a spot of rtv on the back to keep the new one from wigglin. Pushed the good vin back in old holes.

Guy told me today "easy breezy"...lol
