Dual Battery Set-Ups - Diesels?

I've never really paid to much attention to the Diesel Comanches, mainly because I've not come across one or an owner of one. That said, most of the diesel tractors, back-hoes and trucks i've owned ran a dual battery set-up.

 

Question - does the Comanche Diesel engine option have a dual battery set-up? Was just curious if anyone adopted it to thier 4.0L or has done a dual battery conversion.

Doubt very seriously any comanche ever came with a dual battery setup, diesel or not.  But if you want to know more about them and how you might go about setting one up, these are three of the best guides that i have found on the internet.

If I were to do this, I think I may start with some of the SUPER small street rod/ racing batteries, then try to fit them both in the same area as one stock battery. Might be an option for you. 

 

Good suggestion, actually wasn't even thinking about a Motorcycle or ATV battery as a second source. The MJ battery holder is pretty much set up for a full size big battery. I bet you could just about sneak a smaller top terminal car battery in there next to say an ATV 12V. Hmmmm.

 

I'll have to check out what's out there for the street rod batteries - thanks!

Unless you need 24Volts for something, why mess with 2 batteries. Just get one heavy duty and go with it.

 

Couple of reasons...in Arizona battery life is like 2 years and when they go they go, no fun getting stuck out in the desert after getting back from Dove hunting or whatever. With a pair of jumpers, you can self start. That plus I'm building my old 88 for my teenage son and so...it's an added layer of "McGeiver" just in case stuff happens. That and being a kid, there's already an mono amp and sub that's weazeled its way into the cab. They can draw a battery down fast, so I'd wire the sub amp to the house battery.

I've worked in Thule Greenland where the lowest temperature reached was -64*., 1953-54, 1979-80.  I've worked in the Sinai Desert 1981-82  where the highest temperature was 117* If we had a battery that didn't last at least 3 years it was a defective battery. Not the temperature. Maybe you could just install a portable generator in the bed, trunk?

:laughin: , your funny i wish i was far enough along to be running a dual setup. Maybe someday, but right now I am goin on week 2 still trying to figure out why my blinkers arent functioning right.

At one time I ran a dual battery set up. I was running a Ham rig in the Jeep and had the second battery mounted in the back. Had a heavy duty police, taxi alternator in it.Want to make sure you have them isolated so they don't both run down together.

here's a link to some street rod batteries that sound real good as far as amp ratings and the possibility of wiring up 2 or 3 of them in the place of the stock battery.

Just FYI... looking through that site I also found upgraded ignition components and GM style HEI distributors for our 2.5 and 4.0 engines, as well as just about any other engines. This site is going into my favorites for future reference!
