misfitmechanic
What are you guys running for a steering set up with long arms and 6 in of lift? I just installed a rough country long arm upgrade with 6.5 in springs and bilstein 5100 shocks on my 86 lwb 4x4 MJ. At full droop my drag link at the knuckle is binding badly. What are my options without going to a over the knuckle steering setup or a inverted t setup? I'd like to keep the y link steering as it works properly with my new drop pitman and drop adjustable track bar. Thanks for any info. Earl
comanchedude
I will give my experience with my MJ at 6.5 lift , I have fooled around with the steering for couple years and used different setups and drop pit arm ect.... for me only setup that met all my expectations and works perfect is using a JB conversions high steer adapter, RR steering system factory pit. problems solved.been a solid setup for several years now. but you can try the other stuff out there it may satisfy you? at 6" lift the steering needs to be changed to a high steer setup for best performance. The systems below seem to be popular JCRoffroad one ton steering Rustys off road steering Currie steering system also Iron Rock Offroad
misfitmechanic
Comanchedude, do you run into bump steer now that you raised your drag link to the top of the knuckle or did you raise the axle end of the track bar?
comanchedude
Comanchedude, do you run into bump steer now that you raised your drag link to the top of the knuckle or did you raise the axle end of the track bar? Yes you do need to raise the track bar.. Of course I don't have any steering issues..it perfect. I really do me perfect nice tight exact ..just how you want the steering to be. I recommend to anyone with similar lift on MJ or xj to run this type steering setup..it's the deal. you can see the setup fairly well in this pic [imghttp://pic100.picturetrail.com/VOL1163/4194354/24293153/405425830.jpg[/img]
89eliminator
i run the JCR over the knuckle setup with 6.5" coils. i remounted the tracbar above the axle. here is a pic for reference.

89eliminator
the frame side bracket and frame side joint is from rubicon express. the axle end uses a poly bushing and custom mount that ties into the upper control arm mount and coil spring pad.. i made the tracbar. comanchedude
When setting up your system just keep the steering and track bar in phase during suspension travel . This link shows what you want http://bulletproofsteering.com/geometry.html
misfitmechanic
89elim, thanks for the pic of your track bar. I think it will be pretty easy to fab up something similar to work with my current trac bar if I go to a over the knuckle set up. Comanche dude, that link has some good info in it. Cool to see the different angles in those graphs
88mjgilley
i would suggest Ironmanoffroad.com his stuff is top notch and beefy for a really good price
Darren
I've ran inverted t, crossover, and y-link. I've also ran tie tod ends and Heim joints. If you ever drive your Jeep on the road I'd recommend the Currie Correctlync setup. It's worth the money. If its Offroad only, I'd go crossover with WJ knuckles, and use heim joints.
