Jeepman, I think I have a intake lined up. If it dosent pan out I'll get in touch with you. I think I'm gonna track everything down for the intake swap first then install everything when I do the header. -

I've got a 99 intake sitting in my garage that I'll sell you for cheap. I'm not sure what the going rate is but I can send you pictures. I live in Ontario Canada so I doubt it would be a cost effective option. Thanks for the offer though -

What does the purple line on your chart represent? AFR? I wish the torque curve on your first graph with the intake started at a earlier rpm. From the reading ive done 99+ engine torque peak is around 2800, while a 91 to 95 H.O torque peak is closer to 3800rpm. If possible id love to shift my peak torque to 2800rpm. -

12hp isn't a big gain, I was more hoping on " shifting" the peak torque output into a rpm range that I spend more time in. -
Ive been doing some reading lately on doing a 99+ intake swap on a earlier 4.0 H.O. and was wondering if its a swap worth doing. Ive got a new header to install and it would make sense to upgrade the intake too. The engine in my Comanche is out of a 91 xj so I would have to find a intake ( duh ), power steering pulley and power steering bracket off a 96 and newer xj. Ive read that the 99+ 4.0 engines make there peak torque output at almost 1000rpm less than the earlier 4.0 H.O and would hopefully compliment the upgraded cam that's already in the engine. Thanks for any info or opinions. Earl

I still haven't had a chance to install this header yet, just got my truck out of winter storage. The washer supplied with my hardware kit are machined with a step in them and I assume this is to account for different flange thickness of the header/intake. Also I wasn't planning on using the supplied gasket as it was kinked during shipping. I was also thinking of getting a couple flanges laser cut out so I didn't have to use the muffler clamps on the y pipe -
Pacesetter xj/mj 4.0 headers

I ordered the pacesetters this morning. I found a screaming deal on Amazon that I couldn't pass up, about half the price that I could buy them locally and free shipping. One reason I really like the design of these is that they come with a intermediate pipe that goes from the header to the catalytic converter. My current intermediate pipe is a oem style replacement that's not mandrel bent and fairly small diameter. I think this is probably the biggest restriction in my exhaust system. Once these headers show up I think I'll strip off the original paint and then paint them with some sort of high heat header paint. It would be nice to get them ceramic coated but I think that would be a pain to fit, possibly modify them and then have to takem back off to get them coated but I'll see once I get that far. I've got my eye on a pacesetter header for my 4.0 ho powered Comanche. Does anybody have any experience, positive or negative with these? I've read some on the net about clearance issues between the collector y pipe and the front driveshaft/front diff yoke. I can't imagine this not being corrected in current production runs. I also wouldn't be too opposed to modifying them if need be for clearence. Thanks for any info. Earl

X 2 on the fuel pump resistor. I had a hard to find hesitation and it turned out to be a bad resistor. It was dropping over nine volts when the truck warmed up.

Hey Altrocker1, where are you from? I just swaped a 4.0l into a mj that originally had a 2.1 turbo diesel. When I bought the truck the engine was missing but I still have lots of other diesel parts. I'm near London Ontario Canada if your interested in any parts. Earl -

I installed a dana 44 in the rear of my mj and used spring perches from TMR customs. They have three holes in them to fine tune your wheelbase if needed and there a bit longer. This helps support more of the spring to help with wheel hop.

89elim, thanks for the pic of your track bar. I think it will be pretty easy to fab up something similar to work with my current trac bar if I go to a over the knuckle set up. Comanche dude, that link has some good info in it. Cool to see the different angles in those graphs -

Comanchedude, do you run into bump steer now that you raised your drag link to the top of the knuckle or did you raise the axle end of the track bar? -
What are you guys running for a steering set up with long arms and 6 in of lift? I just installed a rough country long arm upgrade with 6.5 in springs and bilstein 5100 shocks on my 86 lwb 4x4 MJ. At full droop my drag link at the knuckle is binding badly. What are my options without going to a over the knuckle steering setup or a inverted t setup? I'd like to keep the y link steering as it works properly with my new drop pitman and drop adjustable track bar. Thanks for any info. Earl

Just curious, why are you swapping out the 207? Isn't a 207 and 21 spline 231 essentially the same case?

Comanche Long Arm

I have the rc long arm kit and am happy with it. What engine came with your 86? I put one in my 86 mj diesel and only one of the crossmember bolts lined up, I had to drill all my own holes and make flag nuts to go up inside the unibody frame rails. Also instead of notching the cab supports I cut the side brackets and drilled the hole a little further forward. I didn't wanna notch the cab support. -

Mj Dana 35 Rear Brakes To Xj 44

I was wondering if anybody knew if the rear brake components off a 86 mj dana 35 would work on a xj dana 44. My brakes on the new to me dana 44 are dickered, the backing plates have holes rotted through them. I'd rather use my decent brake components than buy new. Thanks for any info

I am in the process of a 4.0l swap in a 86 mj and so far it has been big job. I had to cut the lower firewall out of the mj and section in a firewall out of a xj. I have a donor xj for my swap and I would be lost without it. I also ran into problems with the transmission cross member as it dose t have the same mounting points on the mj. I am also going to have to shorten the rear driveshaft and move the transfer case linkage as the inline 6 engine and trans assembly are way longer than the factory turbo diesel 4 cyl. Good luck with your swap!
