ftpiercecracker1
I have been driving around a POS (actually super reliable) 1.9l 2wd, scraps its azz on the ground, isuzu p'up, mines identical to this in everyway except 3in lower to the ground I am about ready to pop. While it does run like a freaking top (70k original miles), it has: no radio, a leaking heater core, a leaking radiator, intermittent headlights, tail lights and dash lights, no inner door handles, no power steering, or enough power to get out of its own way. And it gets stuck in wet grass. :headpop: Oh and the previous owner used aluminum roofing paint and hardware cloth to cover the rust holes that make up 80% of the trucks body. I still have my MJ, buts its in a thousand pieces and i simply do not have the time to put it back together. I can't even find an engine to replace the one i pulled. So i have been scouring craigslist for the last two weeks. I really under esitmated how addicting these little trucks are, its all i want to drive now. :driving: Here are two i am looking at. . . http://knoxville.cra...3531739865.html http://greenville.cr...3484050457.html But they are both asking way to much (2200-2400 max), and the black one is just to far away. My criteria: working 4x4, 100% ready to drive condition, clean title, less than 170k miles. Things that i would be willing to pay more for, working a/c and automatic My current truck has everything i want except for an auto. So i could easily swap the stuff i want over. 64 Cheyenne
Buy a wrecked XJ, has all you'll ever need...well almost. I feel for you about the little truck, well almost. My DD is a dropped 91 S10, yup gets stuck very easily, has no power steering but gets about twice the mileage as the MJ, does have cool factor. I like the fact that when the weather is nasty or I want to cruise the boonies, I get the privileged of driving the Chief. Ya gotta drive something, fix the heater core/radiator, suck up the rest and get that MJ fixed...
ParadiseMJ
I like the white one...looks good for half the price of the black one which says "would make a good crawler" (indicating it needs even more work to make it so). Sounds like the white one has some wiggle room. Drive the P'up over there when you look at it...then the guy will know you're broke. He's open to trades...how about the Isuzu?? ftpiercecracker1
He's open to trades...how about the Isuzu?? I would gladly give that and another grand to have his MJ. Ya, the isuzu is a great little truck for some old fella whos only need for a bed is to get the occasional bag of dog food for his 100 year old basset hound. Its the proverbial "old man" truck. Now if it were a diesel i could have sold it 10 times over by now, but at the same time i probably would never get rid of it, those things get like 35-40 mpg. ParadiseMJ
I would gladly give that and another grand to have his MJ. You got the beginnings of a deal...try another grand. Its the proverbial "old man" truck... That must be what draws me to it. Whaddya mean by "old". Seriously though, if I had it to do over again I may consider buying a "ready to go" MJ for $4K I've learned volumes building my truck that I got for $400. I've also spent about 3K gettint it right how I want it...and it's not just right yet. The only reason I've slowed down on spending money on it is my wife tells me we need: A new back fence A new kitchen floor New carpet A vacation to the Bahamas etc. etc. ...and then there's the grandkids!!! shawn
this could have potential. 91 is an interesting year. plus a high-output motor ...... (shame it's a longbox though). http://athensga.craigslist.org/cto/3565046242.html
Minuit
I'll sell you mine. How does 2000 and a fully restored Grand Wagoneer sound for a price? :P P.S. that Isuzu will probably run forever.

ftpiercecracker1
Ok so i called the guy with the white 4x4 auto. http://knoxville.craigslist.org/cto/3531739865.html Currently he wants 3500, way to much for me right now. So i shot him 2000, didnt take. Then he asked if i had anything to trade. Hmmmm, what do i have that worth something, that i want to get rid of like the plague? Told him about the pup, seemed interested, sent some pictures and he said he would be willing to trade for 2K and the truck. Again, i'm thinkin, aint gonna happen, i tell him 1250 and the truck is the best i can offer, a little more than i wanted to offer but i didnt want to keep the pup anyway. He politely declines and says he will have to pass for now, i let him know if he changes his mind my offer still stands. Either way it was a good exercise in deal making, even though we couldnt reach an agreement. Darn and i really liked that truck. :( Until next time. JFAComanche6
If theres one thing that pissed me off the most about my 2wd MJ, it was getting stuck on wet grass. It happened often and was just...embarassing. That and half the parts on it were rotten. That Isuzu looks like a good truck for a backup vehicle though. ftpiercecracker1
For a DD you can't beat it with a stick, at least as far as reliablility is concerned. But it has the same problems as it is a 2wd comanche and then some. Its so underpowered, mix a 1.9l 4cyl and a 4spd transmission and you get the doggiest little truck ever produced, not joking. The engine itself will probably never die, but right now it has a leaking heater core, some electrical problems(intermittent HL, TL, and DL), no inner door handles, and a small exhaust leak. In its current state i would be hard pressed to get 900 out of it. What really stinks is that it doesnt get that great of fuel milage, best i have ever gotten (high way) was 22 mpg. JFAComanche6
22mpg for something that small does kinda suck, but like I said, a good backup vehicle. I hope you get your Comanche built, its a great experience to rebuild an MJ.
ftpiercecracker1
Finally sold her, got a $1000 cash. Although i never did really like the little truck i am some what sad to see her go. The man that bought her, cuts them into pieces and ships them overseas to be sold for parts. Kinda makes me feel like i betrayed the little truck, in return for all its reliable service i go and sell it to the chop shop. :( Oh well i suppose, it is just a truck after all. gogmorgo
$1000 sounds pretty good for a chop shop, though.

I was hoping some old guy would come buy it for his daily driver or his grandson's first truck.
gogmorgo
Yeah, always sad when a vehicle gets scrapped with life still in it. Seems like a waste. At least it's going to live on in other vehicles.
Minuit
Yeah, it's surprising how much of a bond can be forged with a vehicle that you 'hate'. At least it's better than being Cash for Clunkered. I'm still mad about that. Still, it seems like the little truck lived its useful life even if it only was at 70k.
