mnkyboy Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 I used rear hinges on mine, they are the same hinge they just cut the mount tab a little to fit the piller in the XJ which doesnt really matter since you will be welding them on anyway. I would just go to a wrecking yard, XJs are easy to find.

I would just go to a wrecking yard, XJs are easy to find. Why will I be welding them on? Mine currently are bolted on with torx head bolts. I have no, zero, nada, zip salvage yards in my remote area where I live. Sooo much cheaper to get them online.

Biotex Posted January 26, 2013 Author Posted January 26, 2013 There is enough play in the hinge (at the roll pin) so that the door has to be lifted when shut. So i'm thinking it would be easiest to just replace the hinges as a complete package. I really thought I saw 6 torx bolts on each hinge. 3 on the door side and 3 on the body side. Maybe i'm mistaken, so as soon as it is light out i'll go take a picture.

mnkyboy Posted January 26, 2013 Posted January 26, 2013 Its really not much trouble, the hinges come off fairly easy. I always say to use XJ rear hinges because they often get little use and are usually like new. Also the rear hinges are much easier to get to then the front ones.

Biotex Posted January 27, 2013 Author Posted January 27, 2013 You are mistaken. Yup, went out and looked. The pillar side is welded. That sure is going to make it difficult to repair. I found a $12 set of hinge pins that are made for Comanches. You think that would tighten them up? The welds is solid. All the flex comes from the pins. Is it common for the pin to wear the hinge hole? Seems the pins would be softer and be the part to wear out.

That is exactly what i'm hoping to purchase by posting this WTB ad. I have no physical access to salvage parts in my area.
Biotex Posted January 27, 2013 Author Posted January 27, 2013 I checked out the team cherokee site. Seems I can get a set of the rear hinges for $65. So the rear ones will fit the fronts? Why the price difference then? Some slight mod needed?
mnkyboy Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 I wish I had snapped a pic of the two side by side. If you look at yours where they weld to the body you will see its a rectangle pad. On the back doors they clip the forward facing corners of that pad off. Other wise they are the same. The price probably has to do with demand, front break or wear out all the time and rears rarely do.
