luvmyglock Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 I have been having an issue with my speedometer. It will work wonderfully about half of the time...the other half it rests at 0. Sometimes the issue will fix itself in the middle of driving it, and it will just magically start working again. This does not effect the odometer. I've got a 1989 Jeep Comanche Eliminator. Thanks!
MJRemi Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Two places to check first are the both ends of the cable. I've experienced a broken connection at the back of the cluster and also a loose connection at the transmission. If you need slack to pull the cluster, there is a hold-down on the cable about half way between trans and firewall.
relyt120 Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 :agree: I bet the clip on the cluster side it busted, 24 years will do that to plastic :ack:
Keyav8r Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 By does not effect the odometer, do you mean the odometer keeps registering miles when the speedometer is not working?
luvmyglock Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 By does not effect the odometer, do you mean the odometer keeps registering miles when the speedometer is not working? Correct. Odometer registers miles when the speed is not functioning. Verified.
88mjgilley Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 sounds like your speedometer its self is going out time to replace your cluster
Eagle Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Yeah, if the odometer is working, the cable and drive gear at the lower end are okay. The problem has to be in the speedo head itself.
luvmyglock Posted January 20, 2013 Author Posted January 20, 2013 Sounds like we have a consensus. I'll disassemble and examine the components. Thanks.
MtnClimber Posted January 27, 2013 Posted January 27, 2013 What did you find out? Mine is also intermittent..
