CRM1988 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Can't get backup lights to work. Bulbs good, fuses good, any ideas?
Keyav8r Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Switch not making contact? Do you have power at fuse? Trace wiring from back-up lights back to switch and check for continuity and check for power on fuse side of switch. If power at fuse and no power at switch, trace wiring between switch and fuse for continuity.
cruiser54 Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 Which Jeep? If it's the 90, I would suspect the NSS. If the 88, I would suspect the reverse light switch on the trans. But wait!! Just thought of this. Only on my 2nd cup of coffee. The 7.5 amp "trans" fuse in the fusebox has to be good in order for the reverse lights to work.
vaquaro Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 :agree: Somewhat confusing ( versus "B/U" lamp fuse ) but true
wdpk Posted December 30, 2012 Posted December 30, 2012 I was having this problem with my 86, swapped out the Back Up Switch in the transmission with one from a junkyard, and lights work. Parts stores wanted $55 for it though, at that price, I'd just wire up a manual one!
jimoshel Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 Just leans out the window holding a flashlight.
Pete M Posted December 31, 2012 Posted December 31, 2012 also could be corrosion in the wire harness connector just behind the rear drivers side tire.
