Vacuum Disco Issue

Recommended Posts

I know many of you guys probably ditched the system, but my issue is that vacuum isn't being supplied to the proper port (has 3 ports) when in 4wd, it was being applied to the port that is for the 4wd light... weird, no big deal I just swapped them around on the trail to get in 4wd. Has anybody else had this issue?

I have not had that issue, but before i swapped my rear axle I locked the CAD to the "engaged" position, currently however it is locked over in the "open" position (my front and rear axle gears don't match currently)

was the CAD working properly when you bought the MJ? a mechanic may have had to disconnect the vac lines at some time or another and got the lines mixed up

No, because we all ditched the stupid thing! Unless its in mint condition and only used as a grocery getter, i would advise you do the same. otherwise you will end up stuck on a trail, unable to engage 4wd because either you don't have tools, or you axle is inaccesable. I.e. under water/mud

going to have to wait until after the holidays, found out it needs a vacuum switch on the back of the transfer case, if I can even get one.

If you lock the CAD in the engaged position, you don't need any vacuum switch. With the CAD locked, the vacuum only operates the 4WD light, and it's pretty easy to tell when you're in 4WD by the position of the lever ... and the whining noise from the transfer case.

Exactly. What did us old 4 wheelers do before lights......

Of course, you could cheat -- connect a toggle switch to the 4WD light and just flip the switch on anytime you shift into 4WD. Back in the halcyon days of my youth, that's what I used to do when I converted cars from "three on the tree" column shift to 3-speed floor shift.

Unless it is a mint show quality restore, I just don't see the purpose of troubleshooting it.

Lock it and forget it.

It does nothing but be a pain. That is why they quit using it in the 90's.

It does not leave it in 4X4. It only makes the front axle like every other jeep axle since the 90's. 1 piece.

You still have to engage the transfer case to apply power to the front axle for four wheel drive.

Simple easy fix. Just do it.

Right-o. The next thread will likely be "HELP!!! I got stuck in the woods and my 4wd wouldn't work".
