Anyone have a pic of a xj and an mj sending unit side by side?

Are they the same? My truck won't suck up the last 3 inches in the tank. Trying to figure out why

Gauge reads a quarter tank but won't pump fuel unless I add more fuel.

New fuel pump, New filter, New lines.

I have the tank sitting in the bed loose with lines disconnected , pump runs but nothing comes out unless you add fuel..weird!

Also thinking that previous owner might have swapped in an xj sending unit and may be shorter than an mj unit and therefore not sucking the last bit of fuel.

They are the same length. XJ is mirror image of MJ. Pull the pump and see if the sock is still attached to the bottom.

And how do you know the tank is still 1/4 full? The stock fuel gauge is even less reliable than the coolant temp and oil pressure ones. When it runs out of fuel, how many gallons to fill it back up?

Besides the gauge reading ¼ tank...the tank is loose and just sitting in the bed. I can pick it up and look in there. Its all good I figured it out. Thanks guys!

So please tell us what you figured out. It might help someone else.

Wired the fuel pump backwards so it was sucking air instead of fuel. No wonder my fuel rail was dry!! The New pump is opposite of the old one. I should have checked...but 30degree weather and lack of time made me rush. Runs like a top!
