While Yellowstone was spectacular, I enjoyed Grand Teton more. Fewer people and you could easily see more of the landscape from one spot vs the programmed views in Yellowstone. johnnyc Posted August 25, 2012 Share Posted August 25, 2012 Thanks, but its not the same as seeing it in person. :) Just couldn't believe they didn't have any lights out there. Years ago, one of those hidden camera shows was out in Yellowstone. Since they know exactly when Old Faithful erupts, they had a guy standing next to it and he would turn a giant fake valve in the ground at precisely at the right moment. The geyser would shoot up, then the guy would turn the valve the other way and the geyser would stop. They filmed the tourists' reactions and it was pretty funny. 86customanche Posted August 27, 2012 Share Posted August 27, 2012 I got to see Old Faithful, pretty sweet. Not the biggest but rather amazing to think that it is so dependable. We did get lucky and see another geyser just off some road in the park that had to be close to twice as tall as Old Faithful. Now that was an amazing sight, pulled off on the side of the road to watch. Also had to wait to keep going along the road at another spot because bison were crossing. I went there in 97', tore up the rainbows at Yellowstone lake with this U shaped lure. http://www.rapala.com/Super-Duper/Super ... lt,pd.html. Sorry no pics but I caught several in the 18" +/- range. Odd, they never touched a Rooster Tail or Salmon eggs which were successful for me in AK, but they just gobbled up this silly little metal lure. johnj92131 Posted August 28, 2012 Share Posted August 28, 2012 Excelent pictures. The Old Faithful picture reminded me of April, 1973 (first time I was there). We were going home from a trip to Detroit. Stopped at the Yellowstone lodge the first night it was open for the season. Had a room on the outside of the lodge and woke up to a view of Old Faithful erupting in the morning. Drove around the park, then 1200 miles to home in one very long 20 hour drive.
