Paul Bruchal
I'm just curious. Does anybody know what 3-5 lbs of Boost will do with the Renix 4.0 engine? I'm guessing nothing. Maybe HP increase, MPG slight increase, or engine goes boom :dunno:
mnkyboy
I would imagine that at 5 PSI it would have power numbers similiar to a stroker. If you did it right I think a 4.0l would hold up fine at low boost.
MichiganDuck
What about a 2.5 on low boost? :hijack:
jimoshel
A 5lb boost at 6,000ft just about gives me the same HP as I would have at sea level. I don't see how 5lbs would hurt anything.
Paul Bruchal
Sweet! Good news to hear! My friend just gave me his old turbo from his 4g63 Eclipse. I just need the exhaust part of it then I can tinker. Or go the ez way and buy or build a electric supercharger. Either way 5 psi.
rollincoal
Hey just traded my turbo xj for my new mj. Did the turbo myself, made a manifold, ran a t3 t4 turbo on 8 psi of boost. Thing ripped. Stock head can handle 13psi. My build Is on cherokeeforum
Paul Bruchal
can you send my the link for that build? plz If i do the exhaust turbo, I want to put the turbo in the tail pipe section. don't want to cram the engine bay.

rollincoal
http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f46/new-me ... 18/index6/ here's the link. adjusted the fuel ratio with a hks safr piggyback. tuned with a wideband o2 sensor. the hardest part was making the manifold. fits great where the old airbox was. also ran a 2 bar map sensor, and bosch 30lb injectors. was getting a 11:4 A/F ratio under boost. spooled pretty fast, and this was on an engine with 230k miles on it! was a really fun setup, and fun to build. also ran an external wastegate. cody4359
I want to put the turbo in the tail pipe section oh ya, GREAT idea! that way all the mud and water will keep it nice and cool
mnkyboy
I never liked the muffler mounted turbos. IMO its the least efficient way to set up a turbo. The compressor is driven by pressure, the pressure is greater off the head then the tail pipe area due to differences in temperature. This I why most turbos are placed close to the head as its the source of the kinetic energy.
rollincoal
Putting the turbo in the tail pipe is not really a good idea. It takes MUCH longer to spool, and there could be a higher chance of leaks in the charge pipe with all the joints. Also you will need much more piping to run it back up to the intake. And it will get cover in mud! You want bottom end for offroading, so the faster it spools the better. I could reach full boost in 2nd gear at 3000rpm

Paul Bruchal
Its a inline fan that pulls 5lbs. you can hook up the switch @ the throttle body cable so when you give it gas the fan will turn on and when idling, it will be off. The entire thing cost $200. or http://www.ebay.com/itm/Eaton-m90-super ... es&vxp=mtr
mnkyboy
Those electric kits are garbage they sell to rip off kids. Most use an attwood fan that's for getting fumes out of a boats engine bay. I doubt you will see any boost,if anything it will restrict the intake and lose power. If you could buy such a thing for $200 why would people spend thousands on forced induction? rollincoal
the wastegate sounded pretty good, opened up fast, was a loud whooosh sound, like spraying air out of an air compressor. never really could hear the turbo spool though. no fuel cut at all. here's a vid: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=316051448443785
