Death Wobble Affected By Rake?
MichiganDuck replied to MichiganDuck's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Well, now i feel dumb. Haha. Thanks Skidoo! -
I'm not sure if this should be in Tech or the pub, but here it goes: I had severe death wobble last year, forced to park jeep. Over time, replaced shocks, steering stabilizer, and trackbar, then did alignment... helped a little, but still bad. Finally got new tires this year and it solved the problem completely(worn out, probably unbalanced blizzaks replaced). Last week i installed 2 inch spacers bought off ebay. Ran out of time to do rear chevy shackles, so front sat higher than rear. Well, it brought back what i would call a 'phantom wobble' while driving it (like it wanted to go full DW, but just vibrated), and in a few instances, full blown death wobble. Tonight, i installed my rear chevy shackles, bringing the stock rake back a little, but close to level, and driving it, the 'phantom shake' and odd vibrations were gone, and could not induce DW.. Thoughts? I doubt anybody has tested DW via rake, and it doesnt really make sense that it would change anything, but its gone now and the only thing that changed was the rear shackles/rake.

Hella E-codes, harness/relay upgrade and some 55watt bulbs. I outshine some newer vehicles.

I was told about this after it was on! I don't get that channel, but knew one of my fellow club members would have a link!

Budget Boost Shocks

Any idea what shock lengths i should use then? Using a true 2 inch spacer in the front and chevy drop shackles from autozone in the rear. I'm sure somebody has done this homework! -
Budget Boost Shocks

What kind of modifications? -
I've read on here before what shocks you can run with Budget Boosts, but can't find them. So, using chevy drop shackles in the rear, what shocks can i use with no modifications? I've hear tj or jk shocks i think?

My alternator was going out on the way home. 'Battery' dummy light came on and off, headlights surged randomly, and a horrible intermittent grinding noise came from under the hood from the alternator.. And i have to go to work in 6 hrs.. Give her a full tank and a good wash and this is what i get. Leaving her field-dirty and half tanked from now on! Punish her! Ha. Just felt i should tell you all.. Sadface.

Sbfand Bronco Parts
MichiganDuck replied to MichiganDuck's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Welll my manche is 2wd anyways. I think i need to see whether the trans/tcase is mechanical or electrical. Will carb the 302 for simplicity i think. I have a friend with a.200k mile '96 xj that blew a rod through the oil pan and hes at college so it sits... maybe put a 302 in that? -
Is a tcase out of a 95 bronco going to be correctdrop for my comanche? Looking at a 302/auto trans/tcase out of a 95 bronco from a friend, wondering if they will work?
-
I guess they don't do Comanche/Cherokee spacers anymore? Couldnt find it.
-
Awesome! How did you find that??
-
Interesting! But i don't have a honda, nor do i have friends with Hondas.. so not free for me =/
-
I did a search or two and all the old posts say the best is from an Ebayer called "blacktunaroll". Google him and other forums recomend him as well. However, can't find that account on ebay. Does anyone have a link to that ebay seller or is he under a new name? I need some spacers as my bigger tires are taking out my inner liners on hard hits. Any help or other spacer recomendations appreciated.

i wouldnt want to deal with an Auto either...

Well, i keep roughly 300lbs of sandbags centered over the rear axle with a wooden cradle i made, and last winter- although on 40% tread blizzaks- the thing wouldnt get going for the life of it. So new tires should help, but i know both wheels spinning will get it going much better.. time to seek out a shop i guess.

I'm only 20 and have only been driving/pushing boundaries for 4 years with vehicles, but have never had any luck with open diffs..
-
Oh come on, that's half the fun =) It's what the skinny pedal and some counter-steering is for! So basically a JY find of a TracLok'd axle is almost going to be slim to none.. the local JY's don't even have any 2.5L jeeps laying around. No gear changes until it gets a 5speed... already feel like I'm winding the poor girl out doing 55..lol

I've only ever driven rear or 4wd trucks in the snow... and it gets moving better, i can handle the rear end kicking out. Preferred, actually ;) I just put new meats on it a couple months ago and i picked them based on their "snow" rating... Not blizzaks, but they are highly rated in snow for an A/T. I definitely prefer LSD rear ends though..
-
How hard would it be to find a Trak-lok'd rear axle out of a cherokee? Did they ever come standard in anything?
-
My 87 Comanche is 2wd and thats just no bueno when its a one wheel peel in the snow... soo, what are my options for making that rear turn both wheels? I know lockers and what not, but i do need to maintain streetability as it is my winter DD and all year truck... I searched, didnt find anything.
