2wd brakes same as 4wd?

I need to replace the front brakes on my Comanche, it is a 92 2wd. Just wanted to know if 4 wheel drive share the same rotors/calipers as the 2wd. I have not really looked at the truck yet but it appears that it has a unit bearing just like a 4wd without the stub shaft.

The reason I am asking is I have a 4wd swap planned down the road and don't want to buy parts twice.

What I do on something like this is check the part numbers. Either go online to one of the auto parts stores , or get one of their catalogs. Look up the part numbers of the old part. Then get the number for the new part. If it's the same number, they'll interchange. I have found that sometimes the numbers will be different but the part will still fit. Usually a small change and the new part will fit the old application but the old part won't fit the newer.

on our 88 and 89 the rotors are different.. dad's 2wd had the hub bearings and studs attached to the rotor itself where as the rotor on my 4wd slides onto the hub and the lug studs pass through the rotor.

On the 2WD MJs, the one piece rotor/hub shown above (w. the wheel studs) was used through the 1992 models. Starting in 1993 the 2WD and 4WD rotors became the same.

 

The 2WD calipers were the same up to midyear 1992-1/2, after that they changed to the same calipers as the 4WD models. I'm sure there was overlap too.

They are the same year-for-year, but there are differences between/among different years, and you cannot mix-and-match without running into problems.

Thanks for the info, after pulling the wheels I found that mine is like in the pic above which is nit the same as a 4wd.

Some 2WD Comanches have the 2 piece rotor and hub setup like the 4WD Comanches. My 1986 2WD Comanche has the 2 piece setup like a 4WD. They used both styles in 1986.
