CPS :dunno:

It's cranking, but not starting, right?

Is this correct? If it is, are you getting fuel? Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key? If you put fuel into the TB will it start? I had an intermittent no-start problem and it was a loose connection of the fuel pump wiring inside the cab near the emergency brake.

my xj would not start a couple times, just out of the blue. i have the auto aw4 in mine. it would not crank over or anything, it just played the radio etc, so the battery was not dead. it turned out i just had the move the gear selector to neutral and park a few times and it started right up, it was really cold outside when it did this.

What problem?

Are you saying that it won't crank, or that it cranks but won't start?

that's the NSS (nuetral safety switch) i bet your reverse lights don't work either? they can be cleaned, but i don't remember the writeup on how to do it. madxj probably.

didn't 88swampedMJ have problems with his computer causing a no-start?

On the later models (90/92), there is a small wire next to the battery in a plug of it's own. Don't recall the color of the wire, but it was the lead to the starter. I put a bypass switch directly to it.

I also found out that '93 (XJ) had the theft deterrent system (computer key under the dash) that I cleaned with electronic spray and didn't have a prob again.

i think i have some of yal confused my truck has a problem that just comes up every once and a while. it will crank forever but it will not start. we have read online different things about CPS sensors we took the CPS off and went to and got a new one we put the new CPS in and it was still doing the same problem. we took the new CPS off and left it for about 5 days. we took back the new CPS and got our money back. I put the old one back in today and it started just fine i drove it around and it still would start. some times i wish it would just not work all the time so i could figure out what is wrong. i realized that my old CPS gromet was shot and i need to put a new one on Could that be the problem i just want to know what yal think

ps it is a 91 jeep comanche

inline 6, 5 speed stick
