handle missing, tailgate stuck closed

bought an mj and the handle on the tailgate isn't present, and it's stuck closed, any tricks on getting it opened?

I believe I've use a small screwdriver to work the latches on the sides. Or, you could fish out the rods that connect to the handle with a magnet and pull both to release the latches.

my 88 came to me sans handle, and for years I just fished out the connecting rods with my fingers and yanked. :thumbsup:

After you get it opened, I have a spare handle that you can have for the price of shipping. PM me if you want it.

I appreciate the offer but the bracket inside the gate is shot so unfortunately wouldn't do me much good
