Boots
So, we have about 2 acres. The first half has our house and our fenced yard on it, there is no poison oak in side the fence. But out side the fence is the opposite. There is poison oak EVERY WERE. It hasn't been that bad this year until it started raining a few weeks ago, now it's starting to grow back like crazy. This is where we cut our fire wood and i'm getting pretty tired of itching for a week after cutting wood for a half hour. The property also has Eukalyptus trees on it, like alot of them! They vary from little twigs to 7 foot diameter 200 foot plus trees. We ( lately it's just been me) have been clearing and cutting as much as we can when we get a chance, but it takes time. The neighbor across the way has around 7 acres and rides a trials bike around down there and doesn't really care what we do. The other neighbor died and the property is just sitting there, he never even went down there anyways. The neighbor on the other side said to do what ever we want. There is a small creek on the neighbors property, and a spot on our property that has standing water year round. How would you go about killing the Poison Oak? I'm thinking that spraying with Round up or Ortho is the best option. Let me know what you have found that works or doesn't work. Thanks Chad Sorry for the Lonnngggg post.... deziped
Cross Bow applied properly will kill it. Becareful you don't get on anything (neighbors trees berry plants, wifes flowers), etc., that you don't intend to kill. Do it on a dry windless day. Or sic some goats on it. Automan2164
I was surprised about when someone told me about the sheer power of some hungry goats, but believe it or not, they land clean like a son of a... Rob
87Warrior
Poison oak is a woody plant and will require a tree and shrub killer. The stuff for herbaceous plants won't do a thing. I am not sure what to suggest in your area. See if you can get in contact with a local forester. Just remember that once killed, the fun doesn't stop as the oil will remain on the leaves, stems and roots.
jimoshel
If you go with the goats ( my recommendation) don't step in their poop or your feet will itch. :huh???:
whowey
Do not burn any plants that you pull out or cut down. The oils can be inhaled from burnt plants... and if you think having it on your skin is miserable.. having it in your lungs is 1000 times worse. (with treatment). i use round up i get from farmers. don't know if its a special grade or what but it kills everything. other then that i don't @#$% with it if i can help it. deziped
Goats eat it down, but it will grow right back. So the goats need to be a permanet fixture. Cross bow has always killled it for me and it don't come back. However it takes a couple years to get control of new PO that pops up here and there. FWIW. Boots
We're not going to be getting any new animals any time soon so goats are probably out of the question. That cross bow stuff sounds like it would work good, but I'm still trying to convince dad that it's time to start fighting back.... We are definitely not going to burn it! I understand that it will take time to kill it off, but the sooner we start the sooner it will be gone. Thanks Chad
Pete M
having that much of a poison plant has got to suck. :ack: thank goodness I only have to deal with briers at my parent's and kudsu at my sister's. though the briers have a tendency of fighting back. I hate those things. :fs1:

Boots
That link has tons of information! Thanks! Ya, it pretty much sucks having to deal with the poison oak. My property would be awesome for paint ball but nobody ever wants to come over after I mention the poison oak. Its nice when I go to somebody else's property and I can just go crashing through the brush and not worry about it. Lol Thanks Chad
