RockinMJ
What are the steps I need take to get my 87 Comanche running again. I replaced the battery and put some fuel in it and tried to crank it. The jeep has been sitting for a couple of years. What are some ideas I need to to try. ParadiseMJ
What is working? What isn't working? Do you have spark? Fuel pressure? Lights working? Fuel pump noise? Need more info. Automatic, manual, engine?
Jeep Driver
After a couple of years the first thing I would have done is pulled the tank and cleaned it.
DirtyComanche
Does it crank? Does it spark? Is it getting fuel?
MereAnatomy
I second the fuel tank cleaning before any more tries. At a minimum drain the old gas and put a secondary inline fuel filter to catch the crap that will surely be headed to the motor from the tank. We had a couple cars in long term storage that ended up with bent pushrods (one with only 2100 miles on a new motor) from bad gas...
jimoshel
:agree: All of the above. Also remove the spark plugs and squirt a little oil into the cylinders. With the plugs still out, spin the engine over for a couple seconds. If it has a oil pressure gauge, I spin it until I get a reading on the gauge. Alexia
Follow up for RockinMJ. I bought this Comanche from him over the weekend. No fuel pump noise after diagnosing the electrical. Looked underneath, several rusted out holes in the tank! Disconnected the battery and decided to leave that smelly gas vapor danger for later.
