My Badass Metric-Ton Comanche Build! (The End)

Recommended Posts

No hangar brackets mounted to it sir,

So when my axle contacts itt'l lift up with the axle,

It was something I put together in 10 mins, just so I could get my truck ready for a 12 hour drive upnorth to complete my aircraift maitenance schooling,

And yes I know its not 4x4 practical, just somethig to get me goin when I get back home I plan on adding a bend over the axle

long time since an update!

has been fun, rebuilt my front driveshaft+double cardan joint due to a "binding" sound

enjoying the great white north with the comanche in its natural habitats

what else is there to do but climb little parking lot snow piles? :D

then on the way back home,

my tire self destructed, i recovered the truck the next day after hitch hiking to a friends house a few citys away, and getting a spare delivered to me XD

and as it sits today,

the "binding" was not my drive shaft, it was my axle chewing itself apart,

you can see my $20 rollers, no dry rot on these, low tread but hell of alot safer for me and the other people on the road

(yes i have a bit of a blow by issue, my fix = a hole in the bottom of my air box :D )

picking up a new to me HP D30 with 3.55 gears on sunday,

trucks gonna be smooth rollin from here replacing all the bushings in the front end while the axle is out.

the only thing left to rebuild is the engine,

one of my jeep buddies is builing a cheaper ( cheap stroker)

through his staff account hes getting 6 .030 over pistons for $56

i will be building mine shortly after he finishes his

jeep on . :MJ 1: .

Couldn't help but notice that your rear axle is out of an XJ with that shock mounts the way they are. Are the spring perches moved or are they still in the factory locations?... 'cause that'd be bad.

side note, what is the little lever that is located on the drivers side of the pumpkin? in the pic above it is disconected. what is its job?

It's the brake proportioning valve it controls how much pressure you have going to your rear brakes by regulating the weight in the bed some people bypass it when it stops working and some people leave it

so as the bed sags (do to weight in bed) more pressure gets routed to rear breaks? thats cool. But it can be removed without much danger?

so, i got stuck,
moral of the story bring your hi-lift and operational 4wd is necessary

so what do i do?
buy a new transfer case and clutch that is  :D

then came the task of changing both, witch only took 4 1/2 hours by myself by hand  :P

first out came the old transfer case ( i split the tcase from the tranny because its not as heavy to remove by hand that way)

and then the transmission

you can see my clutch is pretty much done in this pic (not bad for a 25 year old clutch XD)

old an new

clutch installed,

didnt bother taking a pic of the tranny back in, yall should know what that looks like

a little offroading, later, my verdict tranfercase works great, climbed to the top of a mountain even after the trail ended

a poser shot, i need longer shocks in the rear, its limiting my down travel

more to come like  always, i now have a spare tcase, can you say doubbler any one?

so sat night i was about to hop into my comanche,

i don't have the greatest parking brake so i chock my truck on the sloped driveway i have

so i removed the chock, and the truck jumped 1st gear and took off,

sucking my leg under the tire, it drug me 20 feet down my driveway, at this time i was freed from the truck,

and it continued to roll down my drive way, off the edge, and flipped over 12 feet down to the road

i was laying on my driveway for about 10 mins screaming my lungs off before my neighbors found me,

my neighbors who found me are an rcmp officer and a paramedic, so they had me taken care of right away,

and my neighbor on the other side of me was a paramedic as well, so he actually took me in the ambulance to the hospital

i removed a very decent portion of my knee, and had to have roughly 30 stiches to sew it back together,

20 interal 11 external, the doctors said it was just like sewing up a turkey after being stuffed,

and that ill have one wicked scar

the truck is written off unfortunately, but i am safe, nothing broken, just really soar, i could see my knee cap,

I'm off work for atleast a month, and currently working out a deal on a new comanche, yes not even a full day later and i think i found a suitable replacement,

I'm importing it from the states to canada,

its complete to the way i want it, the only thing ill change is adding my bushwackers onto it and painting it,

the paint i want is dark metallic forest green, and i will have the white pioneer stripe down the back,

yes I'm bringing sexy back XD

here are some pics of me and my truck

i will have more of the truck probably tomorrow

If you got/get to keep your truck we would've had matching roofs! chicks dig scars and body damage but glad your okay man, that's what matters the most! Take your time healing and spend countless hours reading threads on here and pirate4x4... That's what I did :D
