Rymanrph Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 My exhaust keeps rattling against the transmission cross member. Every couple weeks I crawl under there and use a pry bar to separate the two, but it always sags back. Any tips?
JeepcoMJ Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 replace your transmission mount. I've found that if it's rattling, generally the trans mount is on it's last legs and has deteriorated to a point that it's lost around 1/2" of height.
bgred2 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Had the same problem with my old beater comanche. Pried the transmission up with a tire iron and put a hockey puck under it. Still goin strong 3 years later.

Tranny mounts can be expensive, though. Inspect visually. If you don't see chunks of rubber missing, it might be worthwhile just shimming with a washer or two on each of the bolts to create enough clearance to stop the rattling.
cruiser54 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Motor mounts AND tranny mounts can contribute to this. Inspect them both. Not expensive. See www.rockauto.com.
Rymanrph Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 I replaced one of the motor mounts when I did the swap; the other was perfectly fine. I've had the transmission mount in and out a couple times and don't remember it looking worn, but its worth looking into.

fiatslug87 Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 Also check the exhaust hanger bushing at the crossmember, mine was in bad shape. http://comancheclub.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=33148
