metric ton springs???

What exactly are metric ton springs? Benefits? Lift? How do you identify them(like in the junkyard)?thanks.

the payload rating will be 2205 lbs a metric ton it would have came on a longbed with a dana 44 rear and i beleive theyre are 5 leaves to the spring.
