motorbikejedi Posted December 22, 2010 Share Posted December 22, 2010 Well I just signed up to this forum, and was pretty excited to see that the Comanche club Comanche...was exactly like mine! I also have a question to all you jeepers out there. I have read up about 2wd to 4wd conversions. All the forums have been about the 4.0's. Has anyone done it with the 2.5's. Do i need different transmissions than 4.0's or is it pretty much the same? Just curious to know your input on the 2wd 2.5 to 4wd conversion. Also, does anyone know about whether or not i could keep my four speed manual trans? I'm possibly looking to do the 4wd conversion but using a manual trans. Anyways, here's a picture of the beast! Anyways, a 2wd to 4wd sounds easy at 1st. but I'm in the middle of mine right now and let me tell you its not. mnkyboy Posted December 22, 2010 Share Posted December 22, 2010 Only big difference between the 2.5l and 4.0l conversion is you will need a 4cyl trans and transfer case. If you already have an AX4 you should have 3.55s so finding a front axle will be easy,although if you decide to put on big tires you might want to regear. motorbikejedi Posted December 23, 2010 Author Share Posted December 23, 2010 Here's a few pictures from when I first got my Comanche, I wish i had some more pictures of the work i had to do, I fiber glassed the wheel wells and the big holes, repainted twice since I've had it, along with a great deal of other work, but here is a few pictures anyways. motorbikejedi Posted December 25, 2010 Author Share Posted December 25, 2010 I am so excited for spring, When the weather turns nice again I have a big list of to-dos! I plan on first of all eliminating the stupid load sensing proportioning valve, I put brand new brakes, adjusters, hardware, wheel cylinders, everything in the rear brakes but that load sensor has been screwing with them since I've had it. I also plan on redoing the carpet, hopefully by then I will have learned how to weld in school! Another thing that needs to be fixed is the rear diff cover, which is not a big deal. Also I plan on some more body work, fixing the idle, and also fixing the resistor so the heat and air work on all speeds. I am definitely glad I have a Comanche to practice all this stuff on, I am gonna have one sweet truck. If I think of anything else that needs to be done I will let you know, If anyone has any input on any of these projects just chime in. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Every small mod or add on will only teach you more and before you know it youll have multiple MJs and be wanting to do the same thing to them all. motorbikejedi Posted June 13, 2011 Author Share Posted June 13, 2011 Well i finally got some work done on the comanche, I'm trying to make it road worthy so I can use it as my DD for a while. I have run a new brake line to the rear and plugged the height sensing port of the prop valve. I re-did the seal for the rear diff and put in some new fluid. I also have a new exhaust mostly run, but I need to put a pipe kicking out from the muffler, and need to figure out a way to make some more back pressure. I made a new exhaust from the manifold back, I have about four feet of pipe then the muffler, and it will kick out just before the rear tire. If anyone has any ideas for the back pressure let me know. Once I get the exhaust good, I'm gonna use this truck as daily. My plan for then is to fix the floorboard, body work and new paint, fix the blower motor (or resistor), and also fix all the interior lights, As soon as i have something worth taking a picture I'll post it.
