IMHO I think you simply need a new clutch set.

And more than likely you'll end up being right, lol. With the way money is right now, I'm unsure when that repair would happen, which is a bummer. So I'm tinkering with everything I can tinker with.

Looks like I found the cause of the clutch problem, which is odd at best. There's a crack in the firewall that allows it to flex. When you depress the clutch, it pushes the Master forward. Course that means I'm not getting a full stroke. If the Master is held still, everything operates normally. Obviously the Master is too far front.

More on this as soon as I find my missing camera. :???:

it took me 2 years and 4 clutches to get mine to work right,

do you still have the bracked that bolts onto the master cyl from the firewall?

this is so it doesnt flex out like you say,

and for Reverse, try doubble tapping all the way and slamming it into R,

from the looks of your pic, you have an 86 with and external clutch?

if you replaced the clutch/slave cyl, you will also need to replace the master cyl,

clutchcityonline.com is where i got my parts

turn signals are a bad fuse, which means you have clutch fluid leaking into the electrical box,

try to wedge all new fuses in let us know how it turns out

*EDITS*

my clutch was verry iffy, i had to slam it in reverse and first,

but it still worked, just give it alot of force

No, there's no bracket on the Master. It bolts directly to the firewall. The firewall is what's flexing. So until the firewall can be welded, I'll just drill a hole and put a nut, bolt, and a few washers to make it a little more solid. I'm still unsure what, or who, damaged the firewall. But, both the Slave and the Master were replaced.

For the turn signals, the brake fluid was the first thing I checked for, but there was no leak at all. From the looks of it underneath there, there never had been either, which I was a bit surprised about. I'll poke around tomorrow and hopefully get to the bottom of it.

thats your problem right there

there should be a bracket underneath your dash,

it is a support beam to make sure the firewall does not flex from the force of the clutch pedal,

from the fender side to the left(from under the dash not in the engine bay) bolt on the master cyl,

without it, your firewall will just flex instead of engage the pedal :P

i wish i had pictures to show you, but i just got rid of my 86 to a wrecker,

keep going man, youll like er when you get all the bugs out i promise comanche.gif

hey I noticed the aftermarket cd player head unit. Did you install that or did it come with the truck?

I'm thinking about doing the same with mine but not sure how to do it.

get a car audio place to print you out an audio wiring diagram,

and just splice it in

here are some examples that i have done

(sorry for :hijack: )

fixing this p/o's crappy wiring

How did you know what wires went where into the back of that? Thanks!

there should be a wiring diagram on the orignal stereo,

if you have the oem one or any after market one,

just read what is on that and tag the wires accordingly,

when you put in a new deck att (off new deck) you want to the batt power, and the power to the ignition,

otherwise your presets won't be saved

Hey, sorry for not replying to this. All I can say is, listen to these other folks. I know very little about stereo's.

All I know about this one is that it's an aftermarket cassette player, haha, and that it is just terrible. It was in the truck when I got it, and I've got a CD player ready to go in it. So, I'll probably be looking for the same help you're asking for soon. At least I know I can just come right back here.

Back to this for a sec, whenever anyone in my family has installed an aftermarket stereo, they've always gotten a wiring harness from Wal-mart. You splice it to your wires and it plugs into the stereo, giving everything a place to be plugged in. I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I'd say it's worth looking into. They hang in the car audio section.

You may be able to find a wiring diagram online, also.

Brandon

at least its not the 2.8 v6 jesus have you driven one of these things

I haven't driven the 2.8 but I've gotta say I'm impressed with my 2.5 so far. I haven't once felt like I was lacking power.

And I'm loving 4-low.

I just want to point out that the pictures of the radio's posted above are not mine, just to avoid any confusion.

It's been a while since I've put anything in here. For starters, I finally got to do some heavy hauling:

An old disassembled bridge made out of railroad ties. The 2.5 did great and had no trouble at all. I was impressed. Only had to downshift to 3rd maybe 3 times over the mountains.

And just yesterday, I finally got the CD player and two front speakers installed. (The window rails that retract when you put the window up (Or down, I forget.) actually came through the speakers. I hose clamped two pieces of hose over the rail to guide them in place.)

I definitely had some trouble getting the CD player hooked up properly. And since there is no aftermarket wiring harness for an '86 (that I ever saw), you have to wire it straight in. This was a pain to figure out, lol. This is the harness that controls the speakers (duh):

The diagram is:

Green w/ white--Left Rear +

Brown w/ white--Left Rear -

Green-----------Left Front +

Black w/ white---Left front -

White w/ black---Right Rear +

Brown-----------Right Rear -

White-----------Right Front +

Black------------Right Front -

Any aftermarket CD player should come with a diagram for the harness it comes with.

And here she is as of March 2nd, 2011:

Next thing she really needs: Track bar.

[EDIT] In the case of the stereo, something is still off. It doesn't save my stations after an extended period of time, so obviously the constant isn't right. :hmm:

switch the ignition power cable with the battery power cable and vise versa on the cd player jamminz.gif

are the front and back tiers the same size? they look differernt but it might just be the mismatched rims. i like tha paint scheme looks good.

Yep, they're the same. Right now I'm trying to decide if I want the black wheels on all four, or if I want to find two more to match the fronts. Then it's just finding an extra 20 bucks to have the garage swap 'em.

Yeah, I've tried that. I've tried swapping a few of the wires, as I'm pretty much guessing which one is the constant power (not original). The way it's hooked up now is the only way it seems to respond. Changing one or both of the wires ends up resulting in no power to the unit at all. I'll keep fiddling with it, lol.

Finally got the pesky radio problem resolved. Was as simple as finding the time and getting my hands on a multimeter, and now it's working great.

The truck's been parked for maybe four or five days, as there's no insurance on it at the moment. I went out to finish up the radio and put the dash back together, and my shop towels behind the seat have already been eaten by mice. Could not believe that. To make matters worse, I've got no defroster. I'm really hoping it's just a blown fuse and that the two aren't linked.
