I just got done with a 3.4 block swap in my 86 and I'm wonder what options I have for carbs. I've been doing a little research and I keep hearing from people that weber is the way to go. I found this one and I'm wondering if this is an upgrade from the stock rochester or if it is the same as the rochester? http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/product_p/wk490.htm

Holy Crap. The end is nigh approaching. After nearly avoiding several heart attacks(I'm only 20) I have almost completed the engine swap. Had a couple mishaps that slowed progress. Such as a head bolt breaking off in the block when I removed the head to replace the head gaskets, friends saying they're coming over to help then never showing up, not labeling things as I took them off, not taking before and after pics to remind myself where things go. Well here's where I'm at now. I got the old engine out, new one in, now I'm just buttoning everything up and trying to get it running. Oh and I'm eliminating most of the useless vacuum crap.

Oh and by the way. I know its real short notice but this Sunday I'll be working trying to get everything back together. If anyone is able to come please let me know. Unfortunately the above said date that my grandmother gave me is Monday so I'm on a major time crunch and having 2 jobs and going to school full time makes it hard to find time to work on it. :-/

Hey guys I'm sorry I haven't been on in a while. I've kid of been in a bit of a funk lately and lost all motivation to work on the truck. But I have made some progress recently and I have everything I need to finish. Last Sunday a buddy and I managed to get the new engine in. However I haven't been able to get it flush with the tranny. I'm still trying to coax it into place. Unfortunately my grandmother has given me a deadline to get it done or she's having the truck towed to a salvage yard. If anyone is able to come help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Nate

Its cool. I'm kind stuck in between a rock and a hard place though. I have to have it finished by tomorrow mid-morning because I have family coming from California and I have to have the truck running and garage all cleaned up. I have a few friends coming over later so hopefully I can know it out. -

Just mainly where the accessory brackets go. I think I got most of them figured out but I'm having some trouble with some. And so pics of everything by the distributor. Thanks a lot. Nate -
Ok so I'm halfway through swapping my $#!&ty 2.8 for the 3.4 block and I have the 3.4 almost ready to go in. I was stupid and didn't take any pictures of how some of the brackets were set up on the 2.8. If anyone has any pictures of a 2.8 in the engine compartment please post them. I'm so ready to put this engine in and be driving again.

Oh true. How about next weekend?
-
Well I've got everything together now. I just need to find some time and some extra hands to help get it done. What is everyone up to this Saturday?
-
Gearboxes might be coming too.

Funny thing is I've been looking into that and am wanting to put a 5speed in it as soon as I get a chance. However for now I'll just be sticking with the $#!&ty 3speed auto I have just for the sake of getting it back on the road faster. I love them. They look great and perform great on and off road. Don't quote me on this because it has been almost 6 months since I've driven my truck and my memory is failing me on some stuff but they were pretty quiet on road. I got mine dirt cheap from some sketchy website. I'm starting to think they a blems because the lettering isnt all the same color. I went around town to get some quotes(tire kingdom, discount tire, etc) everyone wanted $1000+ for 4- 31x10.5's. I got 5 for $860 shipped to my house.

Rich I am still planning to be working on it this weekend saturday and sunday. Which ever day works best for you and whoever else can come works for me. I'll have a few friends over and a couple guys from the Ocala Jeep Club over to help too. I'll shoot you a PM with an address.

Sorry to hear that RockMJ get well soon.
-
Its fine if you can't make it. So far everything is still a go. If you are going to be able to come PM me with your phone number and I'll reply with an address.

I've done some research on this and am now in the middle of this swap. From the research I have read I have found that I can re-use the flywheel from the 2.8 if I get some of the excess weight machined off and get it neutrally balanced. I called a local machine shop in town and ask for an estimate on the machine work and they told me that all they could do is resurface it without knowing the "bob" weight. Does anyone know what they meant by this and how I would figure this out?

I actually don't have too many tools. The results of being raised by your grandmother. I have some ratchet and socket sets, I'm borrowing an engine stand and a hoist from a friend.

I'm not 100% certain yet but how does the weekend of February 4th work for everyone? Either Saturday the 4th or Sunday the 5th? I also need a head count of how many people will be able too come so I can provide food and drinks for all of you guys lending me a hand.

what is that little box with the AMC logo?
-
Well right now I'm just looking for cheap and fast. So for now I'm going to stick with the stock intake/carb setup from the 2.8. Then later down the road when I have more money I'll upgrade intake and carb. But anyways I've gotten more work done. Cleaned up the 3.4 a little bit more, I'm still debating on getting the heads machined. The entire bottom end looks perfect. I'm starting to pick apart the engine compartment so I can pull the 2.8 out. I know this is an old pic but its one of my favorite and I haven't posted it yet. Jeep Beach 2011 Oh and here's a pic of the 3.4

well give me some time to organize everything. I still gotta get the funds/ parts together to be ready for the swap. I'll let you know ahead of time but should be a weekend in the not too distant future.

I went for a little bit at the end on sunday just to support the club. It was depressing not being able to drive out there. I used to play out there all the time.
-
Oh and if we get it all done there's a couple good wheelin areas right around the corner from my house
-
Well damn. I never thought about that. Let me see if I can get more of the $#!& together and maybe we can plan out a day where everyone can come up here. If people are willing to make the drive. lol

mine should hopefully be up and running in a couple weeks.
