Pete M
last night our board software was finally updated by our awesome hosts at VertexHost. if anyone notices a change here or there, let me know, either good or bad (since I haven't noticed any changes at all other than it has stopped trying to remind me to update). :dunno: Qui Gon used to be covering updates, but he hasn't responded to an email in quite a while (hope he's ok). phpbb advertised this update as an "automatic" update, meaning that after this update, it should take care of itself for the future. which would be nice, but I'm not going to assume anything until I see it with my own eyes. :D any chance that youtube vids can be embedded now? :rotf: probably not, which means I still have to work on that. oh, and we're exceeding our bandwidth. something about linking to our site from other sites or something like that. I always figured we'd be immune to that, but whatever. I'll figure something out. :typing: If it turns out that embedding youtube stuff affects our bandwidth, then that's likely never going to happen anytime soon. Geonovast
Maybe we're not active enough for the new internet standards.
MjPioneer
Shucks, I was thinking this would be a thread about someone getting their hair cut.
kastein
Didn't really notice anything different but I think I saw the site go down for the upgrade... hit F5 at one point a couple days ago and got "we are sorry this site is currently not available". Is there any way you can figure out what images are to blame for the bandwidth overage? Usually there is a way you can view the referrer URL in the web server logs, find out what images are being used and then move them.

I don't think embedding YouTube should affect bandwidth as the videos stream from YouTube not CC. You can eaisly block hotlinking to mitigate other sites using your bandwidth. But with the record number of users online being 54 three years ago the overages have to be coming from outside the site. You should be able to find out which files are using the most bandwidth and where that bandwidth is going somewhere in the site's stat tracking. Pete M
the photos you see are not hosted here. I don't see how they would be different than the youtube vids. :dunno:
Geonovast
Some of the avatars are.. that's the only thing that should affect bandwidth. Maybe we just type waaaaaay too much.

Pete M
I've noticed that when I sign in to go to the admin pages, it redirects me back to the main forum page. :dunno: but on the plus side, we have a new anti-spammer program (those funny looking letters that you have to try and read to be able to sign up) and it seems to work better than the last. :D and it seems to be easier for humans to read. usually leaps in that particular technology make it harder and harder for us to read it. :fs1:
