blusteve Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 Outside temp is 95 engine went to 220 and I sut it off, what temp does electric fans kick on? will check them first, then go to thermostat any other suggestions? did not overflow and all hoses are good.
Jerry Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 I've been dealing with overheating issues recently. Have you made sure the cooling system has been "burped" of air? Also, so you don't worry about it too much, in the original owners manual it says that "under certain conditions (long hills on hot days, stopped in traffic, towing) your vehicle may overheat, if this happens pull over but do not switch off, bring the revs up slightly to circulate coolant for about 15 seconds". I tried this and the temp does drop rapidly as opposed to just shutting it off right away which means it has to cool by radiating heat from the block naturally.
88pioneer Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 it wouldn't need to be burped, its an open cooling system. 220 doesn't really scare me, i run close to that all the time
mkbruin Posted July 26, 2010 Posted July 26, 2010 a GDI 3 core radiator solved ALL of my overheating problems on my old 4.0. Over on Pirate in the Cherokee forum the Topic Of The Month (TOTM) is cooling. Its worth a read.

I took the cap off the coolant bottle and it seemed to burp about 4 times and now it runs just fine at its normal 190 or so. :hmm:
