vr666dub Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Hey guys. sorry if this is a question thats been asked alot. I searched and couldnt find anything on it. I wanna lift my MJ 3" the cheap way (coil spacers and add a leafs). I'm trying to go as cheap as possible but was wondering if thats all i would have to do or if the lift change things enough that i would need to do other things to it. I want to lift it because i wanna do wheel'n on the weekends and DD it. Its a 1986 MJ 4cyl 5spd. I cut the fenders and put 31's on it. ill have pics of it tommorow. Thanks in advance.
mnkyboy Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 31s should have fit without trimming,i ran 31s on mine for a while with it stock. at 3" you will also want shocks, there is alot of other things you will eventually want to do but spacers, add a leafs, and shocks will get you started
vr666dub Posted May 10, 2010 Author Posted May 10, 2010 yeah i saw that i could of fit 31's without trimming but i wanted bigger arches and clearance. Thanks for the advice. You got any suggestions on where to p/u the cheapest parts from?
mvusse Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 Who makes 3" spacers? 1.75" spacers are everywhere, though.
Pete M Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 If costs are a concern, go with 2". 2 is the limit before you need to start replacing parts (shocks, brake lines, etc). viewtopic.php?f=3&t=23315
Eagle Posted May 10, 2010 Posted May 10, 2010 2" is all you need. I really REALLY wish you had asked before you started trimming, because in terms of running 31" tires you haven't gained anything at all, but you've ruined another Comanche. Just get a pair of 2" front coil spacers and a 2" (or 1-1/2") full-length AAL for the rear and you're done. Be sure to have the front end aligned after the lift has been installed.

vr666dub Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 i love how it looks with cut fenders. Thanks to all for the help.
Eagle Posted May 11, 2010 Posted May 11, 2010 i love how it looks with cut fenders. Dunno where you live but around here that would get you a ticket for tires extending beyond body. That's what my '88 looked like when I bought it, and I got ticketed within a couple of weeks after I registered it and put it on the road.
