Been trying to fix my rough idle that just happened over night. With no real warning other than a slight, like sputter while driving down the freeway on my 1986 2.5l TBI but its still the same  ive changed the cps, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, dropped tank cleaned it out, tried a Reman injector but seemed to run worse (don't know if this is a problem but parts store gave me one with red around connector not green like mine???) ive tried checking every sensor but I'm not too good with ohm readings (don't understand what setting to put it on) so I'm just frustrated with it all. I checked the fuel pressure and it reads 17psi and manual says it should be at the most 15psi. Would 2 pounds make that big of a difference? i tried getting to the pressure regulator but its in such a weird spot and i think it has a plug. Anyone have an easy way to get to it and adjust? Should i just start replacing sensors? is there a way to hook up a diagnostics tool? I was so excited and now I'm so bummed out. Also bough a timinig light from HF but its a piec of junk couldnt even see the marks. I don't know if I'm crazy but the manual says my dizzy should be like this But mine looks like this which seems not exactly but more like this Also how are you supposed to adjust timing when theres a tab on the dizzy that won't let it move past the bolt (its almost like it alings it. Well sorry to keep posting this I'm just at a lost and had a wheel'n trip planned for this coming weekend and I'm kinda dissapointed cause it looks like the MJ isnt gonna make it. Thanks for looking and any comments PEACE

so pulled out the CPS and it was filthy, so i cleaned it w/brake clean and the flywheel also. I still have the same problem :grrrr: i decided to check out the fuel filter and as soon as i unplugged it, this nasty brown supposed to be gas came out of the inlet side. Some on the other side, but don't know if it was late or too dark but it didnt seem like it was as much as the inlet...... so i decided to drop the tank and wash it out. The pump didnt look all that bad but it wasnt like it was new... uh lets try manufacture date of 3/31/85. All i gotta say is WOW!!!! Like i said before don't wanna put money in unless i need it so ill put it all back together and check the pressure. Would something like a plugged filter, bad/dirty gas, old pump make the truck seem like its running rich/off time? Plugs have carbon on them in matter of mins if not seconds. I'm so confused and tired of not being able to figure this thing out. :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: :wall: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: -

thanks ill try that tonight or tommorow. Crossing my fingers. -
To start off vehicle is a 1986 MJ 2.5l Renix fuel system. So yesterday i drove my MJ all over Las vegas and it was running like a champ. Parked it and looked back thinking "can't wait to drive you tommorow again" Next day go to start it, hard to start..... then start but sputtering really bad. Figured it was cause it was cold. Let it idle for a while but still the same. Truck is brand new to me so i figured maybe the fuel gauge didnt work and i hadnt filled it yet. So decided to get gas and throw some fuel injector cleaner. Still the same. Drove it to my friends (barely made it). Would depress the pedal but it would just bogg down. Took the plugs out, smelled like gas and had carbon. Changed plugs, cap, rotor, wires. Still the same. Let it idle for about 3mins, took plugs out and again carbon and fuel??????????????? Thinking its a clogged open fuel injector??????? don't wanna just go buy one cause there expensive and I'm just guessing but I'm at a lost. I just wanna drive the damn thing please help. Also need to find a timing light to check it. even though i don't think that would flood the engine that much... or would it? just weird it all happened over night. Last thing, does someone have a pic that you can see clearly the distibutor position in reference to the engine because according to my chiltons picture my distributor is rotated bout a quarter turn but thats how its been since i bought the truck 3 weeks ago and i hadnt had any issues till now. Thanks all and sorry for the long winded topic.

Still gotta do alot to it but its coming along. still gonna lift it more, stereo and interior work. -
yeah i saw that i could of fit 31's without trimming but i wanted bigger arches and clearance. Thanks for the advice. You got any suggestions on where to p/u the cheapest parts from?

Hey guys. sorry if this is a question thats been asked alot. I searched and couldnt find anything on it. I wanna lift my MJ 3" the cheap way (coil spacers and add a leafs). I'm trying to go as cheap as possible but was wondering if thats all i would have to do or if the lift change things enough that i would need to do other things to it. I want to lift it because i wanna do wheel'n on the weekends and DD it. Its a 1986 MJ 4cyl 5spd. I cut the fenders and put 31's on it. ill have pics of it tommorow. Thanks in advance.

Thanks to all. Just finished priming it tonight, hopefully will paint tommorow can't wait to actually start wheel'n it. :clapping: So what would be the CHEAPEST way to get another 3"+ out of it? Where can i get the stuff to do it? -
So i bought a jeep comanche a week ago for $700. It was just gonna be a daily and i wasnt gonna do anything to it................ since then ive started sanding for a new paint job, trimmed my fenders and got new (to me) wheels and tires. Now on to a lift :clapping: Oh by the way this is a budget build. 1986 Jeep Comanche 4x4,2.5l 4cyl 31x10.50x15 Yokohama Geolandar M/T Tires (sorry bout crappy cell pics)
