ok I'm thinking of convering to 4wd and doing maybe 3in of lift.

1 i need to know what all i need to do it.

2 how to justify it to the wife

3 about how much it would cost, hiting junk yards and part outs on cregslist for most parts

i told my paintball team i don't mind using my truck as our tank so having 4wd and a lift would help alot for that cause i wouldnt have to worry about mud as much. also it would look cool

well thats my situation whatcha think.

also if anybody in the middle ga regon id love some help and if you want to play some paintball comon out

We need more details about your truck.... engine size, trans type, year, all that good stuff. But most conversions need a 4wd trans and transfer case with the TC linkage and handle assy, Front driveshaft from same donor, If youre getting donor parts from an XJ you will need to get a new rear driveshaft or have your 2wd one cut down and re balanced. The hole for the TC shifter is already in your floor, just blocked off.... fairly straightforward swap... especially if you have a complete donor vehicle, just swap all need parts directly over. Just remember youll need a donor from the same engine size and family (meaning renix to renix, HO to HO, 4cyl to 4 cyl) to be as easy as possible and to make you speedo still work.

sorry i keep forgeting to do that

it a a 89 4.0 long bed

one thing i was wondering would the gearing in need to be changed.

i mean did jeep use the same rear end rearing for 2wd and 4wd.

I'm new and before i bought the truck id never heard of a comanche.

the main reason why i got it was i knew the 4.0 motor, and that with care it would run forever.

so I'm kinda blind on what i can and can't do

Gearing has nothing to do with 4wd. If you're keeping your rear axle, the gearing in your front axle will simply have to match.

Gearing comes from Engine and transmission combinations.

Just to clear up the Axle question.........

If you have a Auto, your rear axle should be 3.55 gears.

If you have a Manual, your rear axle should be 3.07 gears.

You would need to match up the front D30 with what your rear gears are, to simplify the swap.

If you have an Auto now, and the donor XJ has an auto, you will match.

To answer your main question, how to justify it to the wife.........Simple, the truck will dramatically increase in value :D Don't matter if you're up north, or down south, the value of the MJ will be much more as a 4wd. On resale, if the swap is done right, you'll get your money spent on the parts and for your time, Plus, it will sell much faster :D

Send the wife on an errand for ya, down a road where it's guaranteed she'll get stuck. Then have an accomplice just happen to drive by with 4WD.

don't say anything about the 4x4 swap, just mention the lift. Then we'll see how long it takes for her to notice the extra handle in the cab. :D

My explanation to my wife was simple , Honey I'm buying a truck !

Around here 4x4 is a must , it got my wife to the hospital a couple of times during a blizzard and has stayed dependable through the

winter season . So now I'm hooked and so is she .

Can't go wrong with 4 wheel drive , one of the only things that keeps that back end from coming out on you .

Safe , reliable , functional transportation . Doesn't get better than that .

As far as the money thing , just go tally up the amount of shoes and clothes in the closet . If she is anything like my wife ,

there will be thousands of dollars in useless garments and accessories collecting dust .

Thats also why I keep the wife , " taken care of " so she can't say anything about my toys .

She got a 10,000 k dollar diamond and a 3,000k wedding ring , that I hand made !!!

Guess I got some catching up to do !
