Any of you ever build a RTI ramp?

I am thinking of building one.

Criteria:

1) Self contained tow-able.

2) Utilize Jeep wheels/tires

3) 20 degree, possibly switchable to 30 degree as well

4) STOUT!!! (There are some FAT rigs out there!!)

5) Steel Tool box attached.

6) Able to get full run with 120" wheel based vehicles.

I'm thinking a drop axle, so one just has to remove the tires to use it. (So it sits flat on the ground)

Pics of ones you have seen or used would be GREAT!!!

Comments and suggestions ALWAYS welcome!!

Thanks guys..

I didn't build this one (someone from another 4x4 club built it, then sold it to our club to build an adjustable one).

It's 20*, towable, & takes Jeep tires (I donated some 32" tires & wheels, they supported it even when the slow leaks = 0 psi :D ).

The tires slot into the receiver hitches on either side:

IIRC, the hitch part also slid into a receiver at the base of the ramp.

This view doesn't show much, but is the only other pic of it I have. :dunno:

These pics were taken about 8/9 years ago, so I can't remember everything about the ramp,

my Jeep was ~116" wb in these pics, ramping 9-something, and there was still plenty of ramp length left for longer WB trucks.

The majority of the ramp was built out of 2x2 square tubing, but I don't remember the wall thickness.

It was brought to a bunch of Jeep shows over the years, with plenty of heavy full size trucks on it, without any issues (that I know of).

The club that built it (Mass Mudders) has some huge rigs, so if it could handle them, I'm sure it could handle anything this side of a duece & a half.

OMG  that made my day.

x50 bazillion.

I'm amazed how far the thing got up the ramp,

If you ignore the back set of wheels, that thing's ramping in the 9's.

Did I mention how much I like bobbed deuce & a halfs. jamminz.gif

I don't think it is a Kubel, but it looks like they designed it very similarly. :dunno:

I think the Canadian Military also used these (Pinzgauer's):

THAT is a Military Truck I'd like to daily drive. jamminz.gif

The Iltis is a cool rig. Some people hate them, but as a 17 year old driving them 20 years ago, they'd go anywhere on the base we took them....the base is about 60km x 40km in size altogether.

He also sells unmodified 2.5T's for ~$3000+:

At around 10mpg they're not that terribly bad. Assuming diesel is about the same as gas, about the same as a 454 Suburban.

Guy wheeled one at JS. Got stuck in a mud pit, but got himself out with a 40 ton PTO winch. He was either getting unstuck, or uprooting the tree.

That one was for sale at the time for $3500 on military tires. But to get some better Michelins on it at $1000 per tire for ten wheels plus a spare would be $11,000 in rubber.
