comanche13 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 my front crankshaft seal is leaking and i need to change it but i don't know how to install a speedy sleeve Thanks Tim
Pete M Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 never heard of it before. I did find this though: http://www.alliedbearings.com/mfg_prod/ ... %20CAT.pdf
Wildman Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Are we talking about a 4.0??? Me......I wouldn't use one of them, I would replace the timing cover gasket and seal. You still need to remove the harmonic balance, so your 3/4's into it, to replace the seal. It's one of them jobs, that $10 in parts take about 4 hours + to do :headpop:
64 Cheyenne Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Isn't the speedy sleeve used so that you can salvage a harmonic balancer that has a groove worn in it? Along with using a new seal, How much does a new HB cost VS a speedy sleeve?
jimoshel Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 A sleeve should only be used if there is a groove worn in the harmonic balancer. No groove, no sleeve. Replace the seal. The seal should be replaced worn groove or not. I have used them and they do work.
avnsteve Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 HB is $45 at local parts store new (autozone) with warranty...
mnkyboy Posted January 26, 2010 Posted January 26, 2010 they are easy to install, basically you put the included install tool over the speedi sleeve and tap it on with a hammer. I use them at work but only when the part is expensive or difficult to find, they are about $20 each so its usually not much more to replace the part.
