insane rattle from transmission

Recommended Posts

it rattles all the time, at idle, driving around, clutch engaged and disengaged, under loads and going down hill with no load, it will stop at certain rpms when driving around for a second or two then go back to rattling. I'm thinking a loose clutch finger on the pressure plate or spring on clutch friction plate, or release lever not sure, any thoughts?

With your clutch disengaged at a complete stop, nothing should be spinning in your trans, maybe it is clutch related, possibly a pilot bearing? If it only does it with the clutch engaged, in neutral at a complete stop or in gear and moving, then it could be something inside the trans.

Yeah i thought it was the cat. but its solid. I check the connection at the crossmember when i first got the truck and it was fine. No doubt its coming from the bell housing. I'm going to start tear down later today and i will post my findings. Thanks for the thoughts guys image_209027.gif

What was rattling? If all the bellhousing bolts were tight, and the inspection cover was tight, it shouldn't be rattling at all, even if it was a little bent. Did you check to make sure you still have all 6 bellhousing bolts going into the motor?
