vaquaro
I haven't seen this malady before ? :hmm: ....Driving along , and notice smoke wafting up from the turn /wiper stalk . In a panic, I wiggle the thing around a bit and the smoke stops....a couple days later it was raining , tried to turn on the wipers and they only worked on High , no intermittant or low speed ,as well the wiper "park" function didn't work (had to manually time shutting off at the normal park position ) :dunno: Obviously I'm going to have dig into the steering column which I'm a little intimadated by :( Any experience-tips-advise you guys have would be greatly appreciated :help:
xmeatbagx
Dude my truck did the same thing. It was raining and my wipers were on then I smelled something burning and lost it all except high. JeepcoMJ
it's more likely the wiper delay module (if you have wiper delay) under the knee board on the driver's side. it's velcro'd and has wires coming into both sides. remove it, plug the wires together, see if everything (but delay) works. I had that happen once and the smoke carried from under the dash up and through the steering column.

I should have clarified , it's a base wiper w/mist not intermittant function (module ) sorry for the mis-info
bgb27
Happened to mine after having it one day. Took it out and swapped it for a newer all black plastic one.
Darren
If your column won't stop smoking you could always try giving it the patch.

vaquaro
Bought a new wiper switch , plugged it in at the lower column connection block ....Voila !...all works correctly . :D So next week-end I get to tear into the steering column :( to install the new stuff (got a new signal switch too ) Wish me luck :shake:
vaquaro
:wall: This project is really going sideways ....nobody ( haynes etc ) mentioned how to access the wiper switch hinge pin/bolt .....So I remove the lock barrel and the 4screws inside the plastic shroud , managed to break the upper one trying to separate the two . :headpop: At least I was able to finally get to the hinge pin and swap in the new wiper switch . Re-assembly didn't go well ,after which the following " New" problem arose ....on start up ,key doesnt spring back to dis engage starter (did it manually ) also the key release lever is stiff/binding :help: Sure could use your input on this :dunno: Thanks , Gord
