FireFighter32
Hi I am new to Comanche's but not new to the Jeep world. I recently sold my 1994 Jeep Cherokee with a 3" lift and 33s. Today I looked at and test drove a 1989 Jeep Comanche 2WD, 4 cylinder, 4speed Manual with a shortbed. From what the current owner tells me it came stock without power steering. Is this true? Automan2164
Yep, thats possible. With a 4 speed (AX4), and 4 cyl, most likely its the base of base models. 5 speed was an option(AX5). The chance of it being a "true" non-power steering truck are very good. Welcome to the madness! Rob L.
FireFighter32
Thanks hopefully I'll be picking this up tomorrow. Made an offer of $400 and the guy accepted!
Automan2164
No problem! Any plans for it? Rob L.
HellCreek
Hi, Congratulations and welcome to the Club. That is the exact model that I have. Mine came without power steering, but I quickly added it. If you convert to power steering, you will need a pump from a 2.5L. The 4.0Ls have a different length shaft and the pulley will not line up correctly with the other pulleys. I know because I tried. -Tom
mnkyboy
I have an 89 2.5L AX4 4X4 that came without power steering.
FireFighter32
Thanks for all the welcomes. My first step will have to be to purchase the vehicle. Then I'll clean it up a little cosmetically and then we'll see where we go from there....
FireFighter32
Now for another question. How hard is it to replace the windshield if I were to do it myself? And can I use the glass out of another MJ or XJ? or buy new?
LoTGoD
Now for another question. How hard is it to replace the windshield if I were to do it myself? And can I use the glass out of another MJ or XJ? or buy new? Have you ever done it before? It takes quite some time to learn to do it properly. This would be one of the things I would leave to a professional were it my truck.
Geonovast
That's one of those things where, if you have to ask, it's better to let the pros do it, or go learn how to do it from a pro. Yes, you can use one from another XJ/MJ, if you can manage to get it out intact. That's not very likely. And all XJ/MJ windshields are the same, so don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Just try to avoid the Chinese made ones.
HellCreek
You should be able to get your windshield replaced professionally for around $150.00. It's not worth the hassle to try it yourself, especially if you have never done it before. -Tom
FireFighter32
One more question..... for now. This MJ's ebrake is broken according to the seller. from what I looked at there is no brake release lever. Where can I find any or all ebrake parts? BJA814
I got all of my cables from a local parts store. As far as the release handle, post a Want To Buy thread in the classifieds...I'm sure someone on here has one.
