Tailpipe Options... and now Muffler Too!
FireFighter32 replied to Carl'sMJ's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Replacement tail pipe from Autozone is about $64. I'll be picking one up soon. I went out to my truck the other morning to go to bed and my tail pipe was lying on the ground. -
How many inches of lift are usually gained from a spring over rear axle? 3.5 - 4.5???

Now you say that this will only work if you have 97+ Seat brackets installed in your truck. Do they bolt on or is there any modification needed? -

Is the valve really that important? Or can it be removed? -

What exactly does that rear proportioning valve do? -
I've always been told that you need a transfer case out of a manual vehicle because the shaft is a little bit longer, or something like that.

Speedometer Doesn't Work

Being that I swapped everything last fall I no longer have the old speedo cable and mechanical speedometer. -
Speedometer Doesn't Work
FireFighter32 replied to FireFighter32's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Yes I did a full electrical swap. The Motor, Transmission, and transfer case are all new to the vehicle, as well as the wiring. What do you mean by correctly clocking the speed sensor in the tail shaft? -
I think i figured it out. If you look at the picture of the chrome mount piece he drilled a hole in the upper left hand corner, and one in the lower right hand corner.

Anyone have any idea here? I don't know how the speedometers work, so I don't know what to check! -
Speedometer Doesn't Work
FireFighter32 replied to FireFighter32's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
Everything came out the same 1994 Jeep Cherokee. Though at the time of the swap there were excess parts from other jeep projects, so the gauge cluster may be out of an automatic 94 Cherokee, or worst case scenario any cherokee with an non-mechanical speedo. -
Last fall I swapped a 4.0 H.O., AX-15, and an np231, along with a full wiring swap into my 89 Comanche. Almost a year after doing to the swap I am finally tying up the loose ends. My speedometer has not worked since the swap. What makes the speedo work? What could be wrong? Anyone have any suggestions?

I am just about finished with this same project. But I have one question. How did you mount the housing to the B Pillar Plastics? The hole for the stock light is too big for the screw holes of the new mount.

Make sure you also grab the fuel pump out of the Cherokee. And be aware that after the swap your gas gauge will work in reverse. Full will be empty, and Empty will be full, atleast that is what happened after my swap.

How friendly is this axle donor?
FireFighter32 replied to case5412's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
I know that Scout IIs are all passenger side drop from the factory. They also came from the factory stock with 44s front and rear. My buddy put a Scout rear 44 in his Comanche. You need to use a wheel spacer, to make it Comanche width and to make it 5 on 4.5 -
Help! Drive shaft length.
FireFighter32 replied to BORDENCOMANCHE's topic in MJ Tech: Modification and Repairs
So Ax-15 with an np231 and a BA 10/5 with an np231 require the same drive shaft length? I am asking this because I am at the point in my 4.0 swap that I need to either find a new driveshaft or get my 2WD shaft cut. Just FYI I have a dana 35 rear axle, however I plan to swap in a Ford 8.8 or 29 Spline 8.25 in the near future.
