Shocks

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if I can get shocks of anything else that will bolt up and be a better ride than the factory MJ shocks. My MJ is an 88 2.5 2wd. I need new shocks but don't want to put the same kind back on there. Thanks for the help

Used shocks? I wouldn't recommend it, but if you are going that way, you could always just bring a tape measure to the junkyard, or check craigslist for people parting out jeeps, I usually always see stock parts for cheap when people install lift kits.

Assuming your shocks are stock, ANYTHING should be better. a fair amount of people on here have been happy with monroe sensatracs, and for your application might be just the ticket. 37026 for the front and 37029s for the back, about $125 shipped from several places.

edelbrock still has some left for sale for $30 each and those who got the basics (not the off road ones like jeepco) seemed to be very pleased. however, you'll have to get a measurement of your rear shocks and find a suitable replacement for the rears from another truck as the site doesn't list anything for comanche rears and cherokee/waggy rears are not the right measurement. the ones below should work for your front, and the other link is for the spec chart to find rears that will work.

I have used Monroe Senc-A-tracks for years and like them very much.

Its common knoledge here that Old Man Emu and Billstein are the top choices for shocks. Either one will drematically inprove the drivebility and comfort.

I sprung for the 5150 remote res front shocks and 5125 rears. DREMATICALLY improved ride quality. Cost a bit over $100 a corner. Everything outlined in my build post in my signature.

I am going to put used shocks on my truck. My question was is there a shock of another jeep that I can purchase over the counter that will bolt up to my MJ and be better than stock. I looked at the Monroes and I like them. I really don't the remote resisvor shocks as I this is just a daily 2wd. Thanks for all the info guys

:hmm: You say you are going to put used shocks on, but that your question was what can you buy OTC that is better than stock. I don't know of anyplace that sells used shocks over the counter, so are you going new or used? :dunno:

If used, you just need to check the classifieds here, on jeepforum.com, ebay and craigslist of course.

Another vote for the Monroe SensaTracs. I like them very much.

On one MJ I was in urgent need of rear shocks and very short on cash that day, so I just went to Pep Boys and bought the least expensive Gabriel shocks they had. I believe at the time they cost me the princely sum of $9 each. Surprisingly, they ride well and after two-plus years they have not blown up or lost their ability to do what shock absorbers are supposed to do.

Stay away from Skyjacker shocks if you want comfort. I have a set on my stock XJ and it makes it ride like an 80s 3/4 ton pickup.

Do you have the hydro or nitro Skyjackers? I have the nitro's on my TJ and love the way they ride....
