Diesel XJ in the junkyard

First one I've seen with my own eyes, they just put it in there yesterday. Anyone need any parts off it?

 

I'm gonna pull the battery tray JIC anyone wants to run a dual battery setup. Anything else worth grabbing?

I couldn't tell if it was a runner, I was just "browsing" without my tools to kill some time. It is intact, although somebody had already gotten to it and removed the injector pump (didn't take it, just pulled it off). I know the heads are desirable, and the alternator as well....both are still there, although it's in the junkyard for a reason.

Dontcha just love VA....they make you appear in traffic court, even if you're out of state. My wife found that out first thing when we moved here LOL.

 

Wish Id'a known you were gonna be down here....I could have rolled out the welcome mat for ya. The 'yard is like 10 minutes from my house. You drove straight past it when you got just north of Petersburg on I95 if that's the way you went :cry:

same motor was also popular in winnebagos, lot's of people get parts from those.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what's the desire to have one outside of rarity?

 

Rarity is many times enough for me to drool over.

There is no desire other than rarity, and the whole diesel craze. It's not exactly a spectacular motor. If you want a better diesel, look at the VW TDI engines...

 

 

Or, a forking land cruiser engine.

Yeah, just rarity. I know there are a few diesel owners out there, and the biggest problem they have is sourcing parts. I just figured I'd post up that there's one down here in case anyone needed anything off it.

 

There was a guy on the Yahoo board that this forum grew out of that swapped a Mercedes diesel into his MJ. He had to rig up a rack/pinion setup in place of the stock steering to accomodate it, but he got it done.....just in time for Katrina to destroy it :cry:

 

Last I heard, he was looking for another MJ to start all over again

They offered some other diesel over in Europe, I don't remember what, but it was from like '93-'96 or something.

Yeah I lived in Europe for about 9 months. I wish I had checked into the diesal xj's a lil more while I was over there. From what I saw it was either a diesal xj or a 318 powered zj, wasn't alot of Jeep choices. Of course I never stopped at the dealer, but I always wanted to. 8)

:D yeah in europe the run an austrian made diesel runs like a bat out of hell too!!! my buddy had one in acaravan it did 100mph with no problem.to bad we never got them here they had approx 130 hp and 200 something footpounds of torqe. :eek:
