more power?

I've done the stroker and the regearing. If I had to choose between one or the other and had a decent engine, I would do the gears for sure first. Then take my time building a budget stroker. But it's nice to have both.

Unfortunately, you live in Cali. :chillin: If you take your time searching the yards down here, and it's very possible to do a total regear for *5-600 easily by finding the correct XJ donor.

Looks like you had to do the motor first; no choice. But 33's w. 3.55s has got to suck bad.

Oh I've never pay to regear axles. I buy axles with the new gear ratio already in them. I "regeared" my 88 to 4.10s (with Ford axles) for negative money (since I parted out the 78 Bronco for way more than I paid). I bought a pair of 4.88 geared ford axles for it (not yet installed) for about $600. I regeared the 90 to 3.55 for about $300 (99Dana 30 front and Dana 44 rear). It's all about patience and hunting ion the right spots for a good deal. I can spend hundreds on an exhaust/intake and my truck will still suck with 31s on 3.07s.

It's sometimes a hard pill to swallow (depending on the circumstances), but gearing is still the proper cure for big tires.

what toyota 2.5 gives you 320Hp? Is it turboed or supercharged. At the crank or at the wheels.

The 2JZ-GTE engine does make 320hp (at least the version for the US market, others are "only" 280)> But it's not a 4 banger. It's a twin turbo 3.0 liter inline 6. I'm pretty sure that's at the crank.

Put that in an older rwd Corolla, add a wide body kit and you got yourself a nice drift car.

320hp is just scratching the surface of what that engine can produce in its stock form. Many supra owners were pushing 550+RWHP on those engines with a completely stock bottom end (but bigger turbos, of course!). It'd be very interesting to see a 2JZ engine in an MJ! HA!

That all depends on how you do it. If you are able to find axles that are already geared with what you want, then yes, you should be able to do it. If you have to pay someone to re-gear your axles, then you are going to pay more. Most retail shops get $1000 - $1200 for a gear job...parts & labor. Gears are NOT something that can be done by the average guy as they require special tools and knowledge.

There ya go... If you have a friend that is able to do it, or help you do it, then I would go that way. If you do the re-gear, you will get new gears, new bearings, new carriers etc, etc., and be set for a long time. Don't let anyone convince you that you can save money by getting used gears...you will be sorry in the long run. It is a very poor choice to try to re-use gears in any situation.

yea, the 2JZ is a great motor, however it is not a beast without the turbo, nor is it a 2.5L making 300HP was my point. My buddy has one pushing 500HP, he has converted it to a single, big-mama-jama turbo. It is Nasty.

someone was arguing about the replacement for displacement. There remains none. All the little import motors that rate as higher HP motors are using some cool ways to get there, but applied to a larger displacement motor the same interval gains are seen.

I know a guy building a NA 552ci motor for his camaro, it is considered a tame build since he is only estimating 650HP... he could break 1000HP easily, but it is not in his goals for the car.

edit: I want to see a turboshaft MJ. I think you could set the record for the fasted Jeep out on the salt flats with that one...

Hey I got a good amount of power from a homemade intake setup, throttle body spacer, upgraded fuel injectors, royal purple 5w30 oil, magnaflow cat, and cherry bomb turbo muffler with dual exaust. All that was a big increase of power. It feels nice when u have a lead foot most of the time. :):)
