MiNi Beast Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Who has done shock mount relocating in the rear upper mounts? Need to tilt mine in for better working ability. I know someone has done this, can't find the thread, who was it? Something like the JKS setup conversion, just need to be homebrew as funds are low from other upgrades. If any one perhaps has some ideas let me know.
Red 1989 MJ Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 I think Pete have made this modification. :waving:
LEAD_NOT_FOLLOW Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 Uhm... they are already tilted "in" on your XJ... It's much easier to do on the MJ's since it's a rear frame. On the XJ's you need something that ties into the factory mounting location or the rear seatbelt bolts like the Cross Enterprises one does.
reson46 Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 This sounds like what you are looking for. Lots of build pics. One pic almost looks like you from the right angle. Willy
MiNi Beast Posted February 16, 2009 Author Posted February 16, 2009 That would I guess, but think I should just wait and buy the JKS set up from MOtion and call it a day. Other wise if I could weld I'd be all over it. IDK what I was thinking really maybe it was the MJ build up one I was, but I think I may need to just wait and deal with it in the mean time. Oh the fun of it! Thanks for the links and thoughts you all.
rredalty Posted February 16, 2009 Posted February 16, 2009 It required having the bed off but I built and welded in a crossmsmber right above the rear axle on mine and that left plenty of room to mount the shocks off of.
HOrnbrod Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I remember CW modded his Bilstein shock mounts. Maybe he'll chime in on this. :D
Pete M Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I made mine out of some scrap steel and bolted it up through the bed. Nothing fancy but it works. :D
MiNi Beast Posted February 17, 2009 Author Posted February 17, 2009 that might be what I may have to do. :hmm: Is there any reason behind shocks mounted up side down or does it not matter? I made mine out of some scrap steel and bolted it up through the bed. Nothing fancy but it works. :D
Motion Offroad Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Is there any reason behind shocks mounted up side down or does it not matter? On a hydro shock you want the body of the shock on the bottom. On a nitro shock it does not matter as much. Ultimately I'd do what the manufacture recommends.
Pete M Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Yup. Mine are mounted as per factory instructions.
rckrdyxj Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 http://jeepinoutfitters.com/scripts/pro ... roduct=660 Looks like it would be easily reproduced.
MiNi Beast Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 Between what Pete did and this http://www.rocklizardfabrications.com/b ... mounts.htm is something I'm going to do. Tilt them in and raise them up a little to have all my flex out of the shocks.
