wolfpackjeeper Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 Anyone get one to fit reasonably. I picked one up from the JY for 3 bucks just in case. I think I could either redo the headliner and cut out a strip in the middle to mount it, or possibly just trim the back of the sound bar to make it fit. Wondering if anyone has some insight. I want 2 more speakers in the MJ, but I do not have the mounts (or wiring from what I can tell) to put them behind the seats. Plus when I add a sub back there a lot of sound will be getting blocked.

BookspanS Posted January 11, 2009 Posted January 11, 2009 And when you wire an amp for the sub, you can easily hide the wires behind the drivers side trim (under the trim under the kicker panel, then straight back to the b panel) i then just drilled two holes for the power and remote power :hijack:

Could work out well, especially if I end up making a back panel since I cannot find one. I could just incorporate it into the panel I make.

Its bad to run any power line and the audio near each other It can give you some interference issues sometimes. I usually run them apart. Some do not see a difference, some do. I just run them separate, it is not that much harder.

It will be easier to fit them behind the seat, into the lower dash, stock location, ect than to try to get them into the headliner. Even with the soundbar.
jtdesigns Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 Whats it made from? You might be able to cut it kinda like Shelbyluv did a overhead console and weld it back together with a bit of filler if its plastic.. I have one in my XJ but I've never removed it, or really ever checked it out.

I have one in my XJ but I've never removed it, or really ever checked it out. It would be doable that way, but the problem is the way that the back of the headliner in the cab rolls down. I may try to work on it more, but if so I will go snatch a new headliner backing from the JY and mold it to that. It is a dense foam type plastic.
rmoore1031 Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Bringing back an old thread instead of making a new one. Anyone in the last few years put the XJ soundbar in a MJ? I'm thinking of a 97+ XJ soundbar. I don't care about how wires look, as long as it sounds louder than stock.
noboundaries.jd Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 ive been pondering that same idea. pulled enough of the trim from a 2001 a couple of weeks back to be able to see behind it. i don't see why it would be a problem as long as you arent hoping to salvage your current headliner fabric. you will absolutely need a bit more fabric to stretch over the soundbar. unless you pull the whole headliner i would cut it at least 1 1/2 feet in front of the speakers, pull your current MJ headliner, remove fabric from both and fit soundbar to MJ backer. cover with new fabric, run speakers leads and power for lamp and reinstall.

That's pretty much my theory too lol. My headliner has no fabric on it so I'll have to redo the fabric in the future anyway.
88whitemanche Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Anybody ever complete this? Best one to use is the pre 96 xj sound bar... Because the 97+ is molded to the headliner.... I never really got around to installing mine but if you do go that route it's the easier option....
dasbulliwagen Posted January 1, 2015 Posted January 1, 2015 I pulled one too during cash for clunkers. I've yet to do anything with it because my headliner is actually nice still. Maybe someday I'll see what it takes to mount it up.
