Bacon
what's involved in doing an xj rear axle swap? does it give you any lift? what springs do you use?
Bounty Hunter
Swapping in a rear axle from an XJ requires rewelding the spring perches and shock mounts, and provides no lift unless installed beneath the springs, then it adds about 6" of lift with stock MJ springs. rejeep
if you leave the perches the way they are, you inherantly do a spring over... Go for it!
Oizarod115
the XJ perches are a couple inches off in width, not sure if they're too skinny or too wide but its one, you can't use the stock XJ ones. thats why Bounty said you had to. id imagine yuo could just modify the existing ones but i havent sat down with my 44 lately as its in storage. -nick
CWLONGSHOT
If you where careful removing the XJ perches, theoretically you COULD reuse them...but we are not talking lotsa cash here guys!!! Be safe, just buy new perches. Â FYI, Because of the diameter of the tubes, if kept spring under you would actually LOOSE a bit of lift. Â DEFINEATELY a worthwhile swap...IF you get a 29 spline axle. Eagle
The best deal I know of for spring perches is the set in the Mopar Performance Catalog. They are beefier than the stock ones, and the price is ridiculous -- like $15 a pair. Â I went into my dealer awhile ago to order them. The parts guy (the manager, that day) looked 'em up and kind of scratched his head. "Do these things come one in a box, or as a pair?" he asked. Â "How should I know, you're the parts manager. Why?" Â "Because the price is so low. Your price is going to be only ___." Â Well, the price he quoted me was SO low that I knew there must only be one in a box, even though the picture in the catalog showed two. So I ordered two. The next Saturday I went in to pick up my parts, we opened up the first box ... and out fell two of the biggest, meanest, toughest looking spring perches you'll ever see. Â The aftermarket places get between $30 and $40 for a pair of perches, and I know they aren't as good as these Mopar units.

87manche
I second the mopar performance parts perches. They cost me $8 for a set at the local dealer. To do my XJ to MJ axle swap the axle simply needed perches. We had a spare MJ d35 to take measurements for pinion angle and such from. I reused the shock mounts on the spring plates. It was the easiest route. I plan on doing an 8.8 so I wasn't going to invest too much in the d35.
