Went to Texas this past week for a vacation. Visited Ft. Worth, San Antonio, Laredo, South Padre, McAllen, and Corpus Christi. Very nice weather compared to the winter here in Minnesota. It was 75 degrees out when i swam in the ocean for the first time, everyone thought we were crazy. A group of 40 Minnesota kids running down the beach and diving into the water when all the locals were dressed in sweatshirts and pants. Anyone else's opinion of the state?

I moved to Houston Texas from New York in 2001. Not a bad place to live, but there are way too many people here.

Born and raised here in TX

Grew up about 30 min from South Padre ..just drove in from Corpus Cristi ...nothing beats Austin though :chillin:

Went to H.S. in San Antonio. Went back for a reunion in 2001. First time I've been back since school. Took the wife, she loved it down there. Would like to retire there, but I married a Ky girl.

yeah, I don't like the city very much. I like to be in the wide open area with plenty of room to tromp around. Where I live in MN right now is really nice, and I definitely enjoy the 4 seasons (I'm an avid snowmobiler). But I also really like the desert/arid parts of the country. . . Probably going to Las Vegas/Arizona this spring to visit my grandparents. They have a nice sized piece of land with nobody around for miles.

Born and raised in North Texas. You forget how nice it is when you've been here your whole life. Weather is crazy, though. 86 on Saturday, 30's on Sunday, with freezing rain on Monday! Go figure.

I was born here in Phoenix.. first wife had family in West Texas (Lubbock) so we moved back there.. and the people are ok.. but I hated the city. to small..

Now back home in Phoenix.. we have 3 seasons here.. Hot.. not so Hot.. and WTF Who left the sprinklers on my head is getting wet.

I still have many friends out in Lubbock and a step Daughter in Keller.. we are going to try to get back this summer.

Lived here in Fort Worth all 28 years of my life and it doesnt seem to get boring. Always something to do and a ton of small citys around you can hang out at.

Lived there for 3 1/2 years in an Austin suburb. I was more than happy to leave. I loved the warm weather, but the politicians and backwards people drove me nuts.

Traffic management is ridiculous in the entire state. Even something as simple as synchronized traffic lights is beyond that state's ability.

I've only lived in a handful of areas, but the political corruption there is by far the worst. What was worse was that nobody seemed to care either. I couldn't stand that. I'm sure IL is more corrupt, but I can't say from personal experience.

meh, debatable. A rescue swimmer got a Coastie LT with that today in water survival.

on the topic of sucking though, treading water with full flight gear (suit, boots, harness, ect) sucks, got to have that experience today.

:rotf:

Come on LT, We swim all the time in full gear (camies, boots, flaks, kevlar, rifle) with a ALICE pack. It ain't nothing but a thing!

You will get better with practice! Hopefully you will never NEED the training!

ya, but do you like it? I love swimming, I really like the workout of swimming with the extra drag from the suit. I just hate treading water. It's not that I cannot do it, I just don't want to do it. I passed all the evolutions so far just fine.

what y'all talking about? training for what?

ARRRRRRRRMY TRAINING, SIR!

Just kidding. Wolfpack and I are both in the military. We have to do survival training and what not.

Yea, complete threadjack. I am currently going through Aircrew water survival so I can go be a fighter jock, and was getting a little b*tching in.

I tell you what though, I have seen and been through some disgusting crap, but I think that putting on some cold wet flight gloves comes close to topping that list. Not sure why, it was a combination of the feeling you get pulling apart cotton balls and the feel of cold wet mildewy leather.

What school? And do you know if he/she has their job yet? They should know, or if not they will know by March.

I am obligated to either 7 or 8, and that is After I get my Wings, which would be up to 2 years from now.

Texas A&M CS

and yes i believe he has his job already as of last year ..maybe it was 7 years hes already obligated for (air force by the way)

fun stuff I know a few aggies. I have the 7 year commitment because I am a NAV. Pilots catch an 8 yr. ABMs get 6, and I think most others are all 4. If it is California he is probably going Space and Missiles if I had to guess.
